@pappy ‘s dilemma inspired me to inspect my junk

Damn. Wonder how long its been like that. I guess thats something leaf springs have over coils. At least you can drive on that.
See how clean that bump stop pad is? That surprised me. I had it in a somewhat crossed up trail a few weekends ago but didn't think I ever bottomed it out. The break may predate that.

I think Im in the same boat as Pappy with this spring pack - It needs about a 2" lift and good load capacity... which doesn't exist on the market that I've found. I'll see how his Alcan fiasco plays out, whether I splurge on custom

Grant - can't you mix and match a spring (s) from another pack then give yourself a lift?

Thats what this pack is - IIRK its an ARB "Expedition" with Toyota load leaf and an add a leaf... The add a leaf broke. No surprise, by the arch its carrying more than its share.

Id guess rebuilding the pack using an additional main leaf with the bushing eyes cut off would get you close, probably that and 2-3 out of the donor pack to get your height.

I did this because I can break an anvil with a rubber hammer

Carried this around for years. It worked as advertised! Took more like 10 minutes than 10 seconds

Used dish soap to lube. Popped right in!

Sure beats the hell out of pulling the tire and having someone run over it to break the bead on one side to install a new valve stem.

Its a really cool idea, kinda like stretching cv boots over assembled axles but instead squishing the rubber to fit in the hole.

Just FYI, dish soap will cause alloy wheels to corrode and isn't good for rubber. Best to use a vegetable based or castille soap.

Cool I get to practice valve stem replacement again! 🙂 Thanks for the heads up!

Your tires might be too big and it's a long way, but you are welcome to use my tire machine any time. It makes mounting and dismounting tires fun. I am always excited when I finally have a reason to use it.

Thanks! I'll prolly take you up on this when I get new meats. Gordy;s and SW Colorado have been hard on this set

Does anyone have a 37” tire on 5x150 wheel I can use for some test fitting?

Brandon- don't toy with me 😁. I like where your head is at

I have an old 37x12.50 r17 tire not on a rim you can use if it would help.

If 5x150 fits the 200, Christian will be in town next week with 37s on his 200. Maybe you can borrow his spare.

@alia176, 35s are now doable without the normal 200-series dramas. Naturally I’d have an envious eye towards the 200s with 37s, but I think I arrived at the conclusion I was looking for.

I can make them fit, but the tradeoffs are either limiting travel or creating more clearance by tubbing fenders/body lift. A body lift keeps me out of my garage and limiting travel is not where I’m wanting to go.

@Tank5 and @2manycruisers, I do appreciate the kind offers, but I’m going to kick this can much farther down the road.

Christian had a body shop do surgery on his fenders. It looks awesome, but not worth it IMO.
