You northeast Iowa bastiches stole all of our snow!

Only got 3-4 inches here, and found out the hard way that my Arizona street tires (which I imagine were a few years old) are waaaaay too hard and slick for snow.

I slid through two intersections with the ABS pumping like mad before I figure it out. At this point, my wife's minivan is a better snow vehicle than my Land Cruiser, frankly. It's still fun to drive, though, and I can get amazingly controllable oversteer when I try.

Yes we did! Although I'm pretty much sick and tired of snow at this point. I could go for 80 and sunny (cue @NLXTACY...)

I was concerned about my BFG AT KOs going in to this winter. 30k on them. They've been great.

Have you done the 7 pin mod and installed a CDL switch? My 92 has it from factory. 93-97 didnt. It's nice being able to lock the center diff and drive like hell in the snow! :)

1997 model:
Is the only point of the 7 pin mod being able to unlock the CDL in low range?

CDL switch enables you to lock the CDL in high range.
In low range CDL is automatically engaged.

Did a midweek cleaning of the interior to remove the desert dust from Big Bend. Also started adding stickers from my backup collection to the Edgestar now that it has been through its first camping trip.

Yes, 7 pin mod allows you to use low range with CDL unlocked, CDL switch allows you to lock center diff in high range (and lock F&R diffs if your truck is equipped).

Also works great for tight turns when 4WD is not needed. Everyone should do the 7 pin mod. It's free!

North Georgia wheeling

Ongoing job, pulled off the waste gate to find out why it was hitting 32 psi, was jammed, took 70 psi to crack it , so ordered new wastegate, and AFR gauge, while I was pulling the exhaust side apart, the turbo went off to get a GTX billet wheel and new bearings , fitted AFR, oil pressure & coolant temp gauges, turbo got back yesterday, did a quick assemble to check everything still fits! Just waiting for oil cooler and got to get a mate round to make up all new lines, hopefully be running again next weekend :D Also replaced headlight 35w hids with led low beams and 55w hid high beams, and fitted the Amada remote shocks to the front end :)

Well it got just a little bit hotter than that today on set here in India. BTW, this was NOT part of the script!!!! 600 on set (450 extras). No injuries, no fire alarms, no sprinklers, only one working fire extinguisher, no fire marshals. First fire truck arrived after 20 mins. Definitely not like shooting in LA.

Must have been a local who started the fire protesting against all that gay porn you've been filming...India isn't all that progressive! :rainbow:

Common misconception. 4wd doesn't help one stop or turn in the snow. As he said his ABS was pumping away. When you're at that point you've reached the coefficient of friction for that particular set of tires. The only way to increase traction at that point is different tires. Modern snow tires solve the problem by using a rubber compound that stays soft in colder temps. My 80 is way worse in the snow than my car with proper winter tires. The advantage comes when the snow is too deep for a car and needs more clearance to get through.

Went and got the bad affirmation from two toyota gurus that my slipping is clutch packs and I need a tranny :( do I pull the high mileage tranny from the marshmallow or do I go for a reman?

I replaced my ignition switch. I was pretty sure it was causing the starting problems I was having. Sadly it didn't not solve the problem. :(

Interesting, my 80 performs incredibly well in the snow. I drive it instead of my Camry Hybrid every time. Maybe I'm just an awesome driver. :flipoff2: Or maybe it's that it weighs twice as much...

What do you even do?!

Depends on the tires that are on the Camry....
