What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Got the valve cover gasket on, the new grommet and new PCV valve installed and got the valve cover on. I also used the FSM, Partsouq diagram, and pictures found here and via google and got the vacuum lines under the upper plenum put in the right places, I think. If you see something wrong please let me know. I have set the upper plenum in place for now but not put the gaskets on until I am sure I do not need to take it back off again for anything. Also, I think I can remove two of the vac valves and a bunch of the vacuum lines since I am deleting the EGR and PAIR, so I am going to research what can be removed so make it a little cleaner under the plenum.

My kid changed the oil on the diesel 80 today, it never ceases to amaze me that even with 280,000 KM this thing doesn't use a drop of oil between oil changes
That's amazing. I have s 1HDFT with less kms and I'd guess I go through a quart of oil between changes. I'm assuming by your statement you haven't done a rebuild?

Just picked up a 1997 FZJ80. The black coating on my gutter trim along with the window seals / trim is chipping off. Do you recall the part number for the gutter trim with the black coating?

Part numbers below

OE ToyotaMoulding, Roof Drip Side Finish, LH75552-60020

Yes. The issue was the wire pulled out of the pin since I did not solder it or get it super tight the first time around. This time I did not do the best job with the rubber seal but it is still seated. I pulled it out twice to verify before I called it good.
You really should not solder terminal connections in the engine harness. The continuous vibration of the engine operation causes solder joints to fail. That's why Sumitomo crimps them.

I ended up cutting the terminals and crimping on new ones after I posted this. The solder leaked down into the terminal and pushed it back out of the plug every time I tried to plug it back into the fuel injector. The only thing soldered now is where I extended the wires and I covered that with heat shrink.

Those types of connections, that existed in the original harness, were also crimped.

I ordered some parts for my 80 from Impex. $53 was my cost and the declared value for shipping. DHL is telling me my duties/taxes to be paid are $28. Just letting people know about this criminal activity.
I think the US is applying 50% tariffs on japanese steel. The tariff situation is honestly really unclear. I think for Japanese, non-steel goods however, it's a baseline 15% tariff.

Even still, impex prices are roughly a 1/4 of what they'd be domestically. So, tariffs knock that savings back by half - still really good. Beats partsouq prices + tariffs sometimes.

I replaced the battery that was destroyed by that sh!t Schumacher charger, and drove it for the first time in six months. :)

Washed it too, not that you could tell... it's gonna take more than a pressurized spray of water to get the mud off after a six month cure. :(

Just curious, how did the charger destroy your battery?

I expected the tariffs and they don’t bother me that much. I finally got to the bottom of it all when I went to pay my extra fees. My tariff was only $9.36 on the goods I imported the rest of the fees were DHL’s processing costs which amounted to over $18. It seems like a profit center for DHL, I mean how hard can it be to process the tariff? So I guess in the future I will look at other shippers if available to compare the actual costs.
