I didn't try and get out. I was at work. Freezing rain was supposed to start mid day. When I left work at 530 am it was already a sheet of ice.
I grew up in Portland and lived in Battle Ground, Vancouver, Forest Grove, McMinnvile, and Gearhart. I’ve lost track of how many times that happened to me over the years. One year it took me 10 hrs to get home from Good Samaritan in downtown Portland to McMinnville. I had a Nissan Pro-4X XTerra. I wasn’t having trouble moving. I was having a helluva time getting around people who were stuck and/or had abandoned their vehicles.

With all the ice on the road in Seattle I decided to stay home and keep the cruiser safe. Didn’t work out so well. Both the LX and the Land Cruiser got hit as well as my sons GX. No major damage but a few scrapes.

Wow that’s straight ice. Wtf are people doing out driving? You’d think anybody living up north would have more experience with this climate a bit more common sense.

Seattle is not north when it comes to weather. Sub freezing temps are abnormal. 6" of snow all winter is as much as we get. A December without a few days above 50 is unheard of.

I went out and sprayed a ton of simple green under the truck and pressured washed it. Then I gave it a bath to rinse off the salt.

Yes, there was about 1/4 inch of ice on everything from the freezing rain. Big difference between driving on snow and driving on ice. Most around here don't have a clue.

Sometimes people get caught at work and need to get home. Even though I’ve moved from the PNW to Central Texas, my chains go into the Land Cruiser around this time of year, just in case, because it can get cold and slippery even down here and I want to be able to get out and about, no matter what. I grew up with adults who had all been in the military and who were involved in responding to emergencies and disasters as civilians after they got out. I watched them go out into floods, snow, ice, whatever, in rigs built in the 60s. It left an imprint that’s still there. One of the reasons that I go off-roading is to stay in practice managing losing and regaining traction. Do it on purpose. It makes it a lot easier to manage when it’s inevitable.

This ^

I find it odd that so many dumbasses try and get out on the roads when they are solid sheets of ice thinking yeeaahhhh I got this. And then end up taking out three cars… So many people have lost sight of common sense these days and respecting Mother Nature and taking a clue when it’s a good day to sit your ass at the house and drink some coffee hot cocoa or bourbon…

You do realize right that in most Rocky Mountain states people drive on snow and ice five months a year?

🤷🏼‍♂️

Cheers

Right?! Great Christmas Eve today, 75-degrees and sunny!

Tech= took the cruiser for a couple drives today. Parked it after driving back 14hrs from Colorado a month ago and didnt skip a beat today after sitting for a month.

Bought a super low mileage '21 Tundra today. Good contrast in abilities to the 80 but do worry the 80 will sit a bit more over time.

I learned to drive big truck with family owner operator–no governor's or Qualcomm. Definitely did some left-lane hammering in the large car!
Always courteous, no tailgating, and no driving with bright lights on all the time. Truckers used to be knights of the road, but not anymore. Man, it's stupid out there now.
I tell my son to always be courteous, but sometimes you have to be aggressive.
My father started teaching me how to drive on his lap, 12 yrs old. Then moved onto towing baggage carts at the local airport not around aircraft, 13-14 years old. Eventually I moved onto towing the baggage carts around the aircraft, 15 yrs old, Boeing 737 200 series. I did this before I got my road drivers license at 16!

Plenty of distracted drivers out there. It’s the reason I sold my street bikes, just trying to get out of the city was a life risk🤦‍♂️

Garden hose with sprinkler works wonders for salt removal underside

Yeah if your looking for a ventilated RHD s***box! And that doesn't mean it needs to be a garage queen.

Perhaps it's due to my location? Clean jdm 80s aren't rare here.
