I find it odd that people avoid driving the LC in the snow. Isn't this one of the main reasons as to why you bought it? I purposely drive in the snow every chance I get for over 20 years and have surface rust on the hatch at most, this is mostly due to my neglect when I was younger from leaving it unwashed for weeks after a snow storm. Pretty sure the salt and mag chloride do noting to the fat pig compared to what I have seen from the LC's I have seen residing in the rust belt.
What parts under your LC are still original at this point? Little surface rust is good reason to yank it off and replace it anyway. It's a small price to pay for the enjoyment you get ripping through the white stuff in the nastiest storm you can find any chance you can get,

My 97 turns into a sled as soon as I hit the brakes in the snow and ice.

Really there are much better vehicles for driving on the pavement in ice and snow.

Now driving in deep snow on back country roads or snow wheeling is a different story.

Cruiser for snowboarding, ice fishing, and other activities where there is limited stop signs, traffic lights, and idiots.

But city driving in the slick stuff and I wouldn't want to be in an 80 series unless the ABS was good and I had good dedicated snow tires.

I find it odd that so many dumbasses try and get out on the roads when they are solid sheets of ice thinking yeeaahhhh I got this. And then end up taking out three cars… So many people have lost sight of common sense these days and respecting Mother Nature and taking a clue when it’s a good day to sit your ass at the house and drink some coffee hot cocoa or bourbon…

I don’t understand why people seem too proud/lazy/dumb to run chains. I run them on my Land Cruiser and I’m able to get around without any problems. I can’t go very fast with them on, but I can get where I want to go in a controlled manner.

I have used them before and they are effective indeed. I would imagine why most people don’t utilize them is because they have no clue how to install them or they are an inconvenience.

It/s like the new-breed steering wheel-holders that don't know how to hang iron before pulling a pass. (i.e. Swift) Sure wish i had a faster truck!

I have a full set of chains for my 37s - but to be honest, if the roads are that bad I'm just not going out. I reserve the chains for spring wheeling when there's all kinds of ice on the north facing slopes of the mountains around here.

Ain’t that the truth. I tell my kids all the time these days they gatta be more aware of others driving on the road around them than their own driving !

I learned to drive big truck with family owner operator–no governor's or Qualcomm. Definitely did some left-lane hammering in the large car!
Always courteous, no tailgating, and no driving with bright lights on all the time. Truckers used to be knights of the road, but not anymore. Man, it's stupid out there now.
I tell my son to always be courteous, but sometimes you have to be aggressive.

Nice! I learned on my uncles farm with an old 4 speed manual jeep wrangler and an old ford truck with a three on the tree. He would stick me on a hill in the middle of their property and say okay go lol. Looking back I learned really fast how to work a clutch.

Love floating and splitting gears!

My 80 is parked somewhere far away from me this weekend with an annoying squeak I am trying to chase down that goes away by the time I get to a trusted shop.

Old cars suck! 🤪 I will threaten it by sharing pics of a Tesla Plaid parked in its spot. Ho ho ho ya forklift engined jalopy.

My daughter calls mine a canal Boat engine

I didn't try and get out. I was at work. Freezing rain was supposed to start mid day. When I left work at 530 am it was already a sheet of ice.

It’s in the low to mid teens in the mornings here and there was talk of rolling brown outs. I decided I’d better fill up my spare gas cans so I go to the Land Cruiser, fire it up to let it warm up while I gathered the cans and loaded them into it. Once loaded up, I drive to the end of my block and do a u-turn. With the wheel turned to left full lock, I hear a sound that reminded me of tire rubbing, but I’ve never rubbed a tire on my 80 series so I know that’s not what I heard and figured it was my power steering pump. When I got to the next turn, I had no power steering. UGH!!!! The pump was replaced less than a year ago ($1000+) and ALL of the hoses were replaced within the last couple of months ($2100). When I got to the gas station I popped the hood and saw power steering fluid leaking profusely. I had spare steering fluid with me so I filled it up, called the shop, and let them know that they had an unhappy customer on his way.

I'll bet it blew the plug out of the back of the pump.

If using remanufactured pumps, need to fill the hole with epoxy before they install it.

Got out to see what 7deg F felt like. Doesn’t get that low very often in North Georgia. Hooked up with @WhiskeyBullets and @offroadengineer for a quick power line jaunt.
