What did you do with your 80 this weekend: maintenance, fix, wheel, nothing, new mod??

Me:
Checked air in tires
Change oil&filter 180,000
Fill gas tank
Waiting on box of parts from Beno
replaced my starter, put a lil gas in the tank and then buried it halfway up the doors in a mud hole. then a washed it from top to bottom and underneath

Now that the weather has warmed up, I got to do some work on my new to me 80. Oil change, removed the running boards, and then ended up welding up a lot of leaks in the exhaust system. Both flange joints at the cats are rusted out and were leaking pretty bad. The y pipe also had a couple holes that are now filled in. I will be replacing the exhaust before too much longer it would seem.

Took it wheeling !!!

Wow Aussie wheeling looks like a lot of fun!

I flew to Reno, bought it, and drove back to Phoenix. :)

Come now... you can't make a post like that without a picture or two!

Congrats on the new 80.

Upgraded my Vibrant resonator to a Vibrant universal muffler.. Ahhhhhh Smooth~

Loosened 7 of the 8 screws holding in the OEM rack. Some more PB Blaster and try again next Saturday.
Found a possible cause to water in the front passenger floor.
A roofing nail blocking the right front drain of the sun roof. Go figure how that got there!
Washed LC...no water inside this time. :-)

I : washed it.
Tore down the front axle and cut off my damaged knuckle and put my replacement on.
Welded the steering stops I neglected to put in after building the suspension.
I sleeved my drag link and tie rod.
Made shock adapters.
Installed new shocks (rancho RS99936) 36" extended length shocks. The doetsche tech shocks were never really adequate.
Got my hydro assist brackets on the axle housing and one tab on the tie rod and everything adjusted out. Now I just have to weld the top tab on and tap the steering gear box and install my new PS res. and hook it all up.
Oh and I installed my New chromoly front axles and birfs.

Out with the old ... in with the new

More like what I did over the last few weeks...
Rented a lift and replaced the oil pump gasket. After a long run of replacing gaskets, I now have all vacuum lines, intake gaskets oil pan gaskets complete. No more leaks!

Transmission and power steering hoses all replaced.

New door speakers and new rear hatch struts.

Last night, replaced the brake light switch.

Weee! she is running good now!

Took the 80 camping @ Lieber State Recreation Area, in Indiana. Met up with Josh V. (VanGo) for a weekend of R&R.

I replaced my fuel pump and sock filter. The best deal on an OEM fuel pump (I found) was $120 for a Denso pump on Amazon.

The next day I replaced my distributor O ring, distributor rotor and distributor cap. A word of caution on this job: marking lines on the distributor and head with a Sharpie is a good idea so you don't have to reset the timing. However, once you get the dizzy off don't get all happy with cleaning the surfaces with the Sharpie marks (like I did) or you will erase your Sharpie marks. I realized this as I was cleaning all the oil and grime off my distributor and just in time to save the marks. Just be aware that you can easily wipe those marker marks right off, especially if the surfaces are not terribly clean to begin with.

The truck is running noticeably smoother now, it's really just purring. It's nice to do some work and have it turn out well and not break anything in the process. The lowest spark plug wire head on my distributor (number 6?) was just caked with oil dripping from the failed O ring. It's real clean now and I think it will stay that way.

^^^^ The front sway is very useful. The rear not as much. Everyone interested in a sway bar disconnect should search landcruiserphil's kit he sells. Just pull the pins when you wheel and re-install when your done for good on road handling.
