What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (86 Viewers)

Kept going on my big teardown to replace the fender, fully replace the AC system, do the main crank seal and oil pump housing seal and then treat all of the still rusted metal by removing much of it with chemical and mechanical means and then treating them with POR 15 and color match top coat.

Now I just have to put it all back together!

So I decided to take vacation to paint my Cruiser with tintable Upol Raptor liner. I love the product but it did not go as planned. I mixed Sunset Bronze Mica with Raptor liner and sprayed ! Needles to say the color that can out was not what I expected. Need to figure out if I can paint over the liner. If so, what paint can I use ? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I would just let it be, doesn’t look bad to me. I had the same disappointment when I did Monstaliner. I tinted with the original Toyota 045 white and it turned out too creamy looking. I waited a week and went through prep procedure again and applied a third coat tinted differently. I was glad I did it.

If you are determined to change the color, I don’t see why you can’t prep and go over what you have already applied. The product manufaturer can confirm this.

That’s pretty good water consumption for Grand Canyon hiking in the summer.
I sweat like an American. I need at least a gallon every 14.5 miles. I would need a water donkey or some other way of getting that much fluid or I would only make it a week, tops.

Me too, when I hike in the GC and the like in these temps I plan on 3 gallons a day. I don’t usually drink it all, but I have a few times.

That's just prudent planning. I would rather have too much than not enough and there are other things that I could skip if it meant playing it safe on the water.

I painted over black monstaliner with ace hardware brand white spray paint, 2 for 1. Seems to hold up just fine.

can you post a close up on that paint job?
It’s John Deere implement paint. The color is blitz black. I used rattle cans but you can get it in gallons for paint gun. I painted it in sections it turned out pretty good. It’s a solid 25’ paint job. I can touch it up pretty easily if needed. Thanks

Little bit closer. Cutting plate aluminum with a crappy jigsaw is a huge PITA to keep strait. Need to install the latches, some reinforcement, and carpet the inside. But all the hard work is done.

I’ve run out of water with water 3 hours away. I even started with 3 gallons. It was doable, but not fun.

Consider the Nissens parallel flow condenser as a replacement. I have a thread out there about it. Superior to the stock serpentine unit.

Well it wasn’t the most exciting weekend and my back hurts but damn I love building things. The trusty 80 hauled some t&g car decking, timbers and roofing for our new wood shed. Until the roof is on it is a great fort to climb for the kiddos!

After a post @LINUS had made a while back about changing to LT caster plates I decided to take the plunge. I was using another manufacturer’s plates that had required that I grind off a portion of the front side mount, so I first had to weld more material back. After that step installation was as normal. I did some welding to secure the bracket to the axle for an additional layer of security.

Truck tracks like it did originally. Thanks again @NLXTACY for the great support

Pretty amazing the difference in the “rotate on centerline” vs “pivot on rear arm bolt” -plates, hunh?

It’s like this @landtank fella HAS a cruiser of his own, or something :hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly:

Glad to see another convert in the ol’ Coke Challenge.

Went out to butcher jones, ran into another 80 owner, he was new and lost. Ha. He said he had never heard of ih8mud......

Anyway, storm went around us(boo) and the bugs were off the hook, but it was a fun little trip. My buddy bashed up his stock 5th gen 4runner pretty bad. Couldn’t believe some of the stuff he made it up, no locker, nothing! Stock rubber even! Course i went up the same hills taking a nap, but i was still impressed.

My buddy “walking” his blue heeler, damn thing has way too much energy, but follows well. Calmed him down after about a mile, but he still sticks his head out the window and bites every single branch that goes by. Fyi, every single branch had thorns on it, he didn’t care.

I helped a snake and a toad off the road back, the western was the calmest i have ever come across. Wasn’t cold out either, he was just mellow.
