Got out away from the office on Saturday with my son. He will be leaving in September, so this will probably his last outing due to other obligations before joining the Army. We had a wonderful time with the NW Cruisers of Idaho, plus one Jeep.

Ran over Snoqualmie pass on Sunday and my truck drank nearly a quart of oil in 300 miles for the second time. Not good. Guessing it's probably a ring letting go. Climbing that pass means full throttle for several minutes, so that's probably where the oil went.

The PCV valve still rattles, there's no puddle under the truck, and there's only minor smoke on startup first thing in the morning from the valve guides.

The head gasket doesn't usually leak oil into the combustion chamber does it? Thought it was typically the coolant that makes it in there...

Time for a diesel...just wish money wasn't so skinny.

Having the pair of rear cross joints replaced. The front OEM ones which were replaced at the same time are still strong while the rear GMB brand replacement cross joints died after 3 yrs of light use.

Waiting in line. Nice blue Prado beside me haha and a JDM HDJ81 in the other bay(not In pic)

The rear replacement cross joint all rusted out and this caused me my terrible driveline vibes at the 30-50 kph range.

I bought one and replaced a caliper before I left the sellers driveway. I like this already

Visited the DRY side of the state. Dragged some bus bumpers but went where I needed and ended up at the top viewing Cle elum and the valley and watching the sunset on the cascades.(them wheel wells begging for some bigger tires?) Usually I'm watching it on the Olympic mountain range.

All 4 coming off now? It's just a matter of time for most of us!

Nah, that'd mean more work. I just poly-welded the broken brackets back onto the flare and ordered some new clips.

Finished my storage box.

The top is 3/4" ACX plywood, sanded and primed w/ Kilz then carpeted with cheap Home Depot indoor/outdoor carpet that is a remnant from what we used for her play house. Not shown are 4 recessed tie down rings in the main section of the top (added after these pictures). The top has three hinged sections - a long wide one at the front that will be a separate storage area eventually (divider board not in place yet) and two sides at the wheel wells that fold up to allow removal.

The frame is a little unusual for a couple reasons. First that I wanted to get the height as close to 11.5" as possible so that the overall height of the platform matched the second row seats when they are folded down and raised to flat. The second is that I wanted to have a built-in rail for a future drawer. The frame is 2x10's on edge notched for three 2x4s width wise that support the top and hinged sections. The 2x4s are about 3/4" narrower than the tailgate so that I can slide the whole platform in and out. The 2x10s sit on 2x6s which will be used as slide rails for a future drawer (using UHMW polyethylene slides) and there will be about 1.5" below the drawer to store a thin table between the rails. It is secured in the front using turnbuckles to connect the floor tie-downs behind the second row seats to lag hooks into the 2x10s. The rear is secured by removing the rear tie-downs and bolting the 2x6 through the floor to the four existing M6x1.00 thread holes. The holes are lined up with the 2x10, so I had to notch the 2x10 to get access. that also allows for the future slides to not interfere with the bolts.

I plan to add a center divider below the hinge for the front section to separate the front storage area and include a locking mechanism (probably a simple cane bolt and eye) below the main area to lock the front storage area. I normally have two car seats in the second row which will prevent the seats from being folded, so if the top can't be lifted it will be fairly secure and hidden.

Where in the Olympics? Family and I will be camping south of Forks in a few weeks.

Was that viewpoint from the top of Peoh Point? Been meaning to get up there and take in the view.

After a day's wheelin' and right when we got home, my alternator went out... Luckily the O'reilly close by had one at hand...

You know your truck is reliable when it holds out all day before finally breaking in a convenient place!

No doubt. Knocking on wood, but i have been very fortunate that my truck has always, with the exception of a u-joint, waited to break down in my driveway.

No pics with mine and it's a couple week old story. Maybe it'll be a reminder to someone not to be stupid. A buddy and I went fishing. We were doing well and enjoying the ride in the uncommonly cool July weather. Quite quickly, we noticed a bit of smoke in the cabin of the truck. I thought at first the engine was on fire, so stopped in a hurry, pulled the hood latch and hestitantly lifted the hood to find very little smoke. Meanwhile the interior continued to bellow with choking smoke. I grabbed a pair of pliers and yanked the negative cable off the battery, figuring some wire was causing it, and it wasn't far from something catching on fire and burning the truck to the ground (volunteer fire dept in this area). The smoke abated and then I started looking for the culprit. There was a hot wire coming from the positive on the battery that had begun to melt, and as I traced it, it was routed from the battery all the way to the passengers side access panel in the back. It turned out to be the power wire I'd used to install my power inverter. The PO has a stereo amp mounted here and has straight wired instead of putting in an inline fuse. I suppose he was relying on the fuse in the amp to protect the system. When I found the wire was hot, it was a convenient place to hook up my inverter. I never thought to check for a fuse.

So whe I pulled the burnt wire, it had melted the sheath on all of the wire from the battery to the rear of the truck, melted a bit of plastic molding and some carpet. wire had been nsecured and my buddy put his fishing stuff on top of it (not his fault- mine for not securing it with tape or something) and it grounded on the third seat bracket.

talk about a near miss. Coulda cooked the whole truck.

fortunately it didn't damage any of the trucks wiring harness. That was a dodged bullet.... and that's another story altogether >:D

I think the title of this thread should have the word "Weekend" replaced with the word " Today"

Last weekend I camped at Laguna Seca to take pics at the Red Bull Grand Prix and to try out my new dome LEDs that I've been pushing.
