Took (just slightly) more than the weekend but drove from our home in VA to Moab. Nearly 5,000mi later, we're back. Had an absolute blast, everything about it was incredible. Eternally jealous of those of you who have this in your backyard. Still going through all of them, but here's a few of the 400 pics we took:

Awesome pics. I love Moab. We are just wrapping up a couple of days. Here is my 80 at maximum twist.

I wish some random rapscallion would come and install a Front Bumper on my J80 when I'm shopping at WalMart or something.
The Slee Keebler elves are very generous.

Thanks! Have so many more of them, couldn't take enough. Need to see if I can find the one of mine at nearly full flex on tower arch trail.

But looks amazing man, at only 8 hours away I'd be there twice a month!

Took Friday off and drove to Mount Princeton to take a little relaxation time with the wife at the hot springs resort. Turns out work followed me and I didn't get in quite as much relaxation as I had hoped for, but still nice to be stressed out with a change of scenery. :o

And then this afternoon I finally got around to putting on the front 50mm TJM progressive springs that have been kicking around my garage for the better part of a year. I was surprised to find that I had OME 851 springs in front. I always thought I had 850 since the truck had 863 in the rear when I bought it--no wonder the stink bug was so bad. The TJM springs had 2" more free height compared to the 851's and resulted in a hair over a 1" lift compared to the OME's. My front/rear ride height is finally close enough to level that I can leave well enough alone and for the fist time since I've owned the truck, I actually have a matching suspension system rather than cobbled-together mis-matched springs. I went and hit some RR crossings and drainage dips and these progressives really smoothed out the ride a lot. Feels like a Lexus instead of a buldozer :)

Rounded off a diff fill plug.

I'll try penetrating oil and a pig ass size pair of channel locks before going nuclear.

Reinstalled my new Slee ladder after removing it to have the dealer paint it to color match. I'd added the bumper and tire carrier about 5 years ago but couldn't afford the ladder back then so a huge thanks to Ben at Slee for recently finding me a ladder that fit my older spindle.

So what is your total lift from stock? What size tires are you running?

Cold chisel on whatever's left of one of the corners.. have had to do this a couple times. Usually if they are tight enough to round off the channel locks are a non-starter. Let alone a pigs ass..

Careful here. A pipe wrench is both more effective and less destructive. Never seen it fail. Best method though, is to weld a big nut on the plug. The heat from the welding softens up the problem and you can turn it right out with an appropriate wrench. Even the heat of a propane torch makes this much easier.

I have no idea what stock was since I bought the truck with mismatched OME springs.

But I did measure the front before and after today. From center of hub to bottom of flare:

Before OME 851: 21 7/8"
After TJM 50mm progessive: 23"

265/75r16 Hankooks

Vacuumed glass for about 2 hours, front seats, back seats, inside the dash, steering column clamshell, inside door... Think I got it all...

Got forced off the road at about 80kph to avoid a head on. Guy was 5.5 feet into my lane according to my tire tracks. Mirrors didn't quite avoid the collision.

Found the mirror motor in the passenger footwell.

Pulled the window mount and mirror off, sourced a new used glass yesterday 2 hours away. Buddy picking it up for me today on his way back from a wedding, looking for a mirror - then it's all back to normal!

Other than the mirror, no body damage. Other than the cuts on my hand, no body damage. I think that's about as close as you can get to total carnage without total carnage.

You are VERY lucky. A guy went to sleep at the wheel and hit my brother head-on a few years back. They were both going 70 at impact.

My brother was in his Taco and the other guy was in a Silverado. My brothers engine was in the passenger compartment after impact. The impact was so severe that it popped the tail lights out of his Taco. They were hanging by the wires.

Both of his legs were crushed below the knee and he was pinned in the vehicle. When they got him out, they air-flighted him to the hospital.

After 2 plates in his right leg, 4 plates in his left leg and 57 total screws he spent 4 months in bed and another several in rehab.

Miraculously, He kept both of his legs and gets around surprisingly well given the extent of his injuries.

I have a photo of him laying on the ground after the EMTs extracted him from his Taco. He is laying on his back in the grass on the side of the road and his feet are mostly pointing backwards. He was only unconscious for about 20 seconds right after the impact so he got to enjoy being completely awake as they extracted him from the vehicle with crushed legs. I wasn't there but I heard from his friends (who were in the vehicle behind him) that he used a bit of profane language.

Amazing what our bodies can withstand, even more amazing what they can overcome.
