What did you do with your 60 this weekend?

Been plugging away at a bunch of different things for a while. Started wrapping things up and getting ready to drive the truck again.

Did a major over haul of my starting and charging system wiring. While I was in there I decided to clean up that absolute cluster of a harness Toyota includes in their headlight upgrade kit. My god is that harness a mess. Anyway I opened it up and removed several feet of extra wire. Also got rid of that garden hose conduit they used to cover all the wire and replaced it with something much neater and more flexible. Heat shrunk all the conduit ends. I didn't take a completed photo (because that would make sense.) I’ll have to grab one tomorrow.

Years ago I bought this real old TEQ oil cap off Yahoo Auctions Japan in hopes it would fit the 2F, it didn’t. I stuck it in the cabinet with all my other JDM collectables and said I’d retrofit it later. Well, later arrived, I had an extra OEM cap and was looking at both and decided that one would fit inside the other. So, I did some land cruiser arts and crafts. Cut the bottom off the old cap, shaved the plastic one down so it would fit inside it, filled the metal cap with Marine Tex epoxy then squished the plastic cap into the metal one. Let that thing sit for 24 hours and bam, it now fits.

Evidently I can only attach 5 files at a time. I should really start a build thread, I’ve got a ton of photos from the last 6 years.

Finally, I started cutting a buffing the truck. I clayed it a few years ago and didn’t really think I needed to again. For giggles I decided to do a section of the hood, I guess I was wrong. The amount of grime that came out was disgusting.

So, we’re all clayed now, ready to cut and buff tomorrow. The paint is in decent enough shape that it really only needs very slight correction before polish.

Well I had a rare long weekend, wife was gone, so I decided to spend it in the garage and check some projects off of the list on the 62.
- Power lock relays from this thread (and replaced a blown speaker while I was in there)
- Alpine Labs Window PCBs as seen in this thread with the factory connectors
- Finished up installing some heavy duty cables from fourrunner
- Finally replaced the last sensor I ”needed” to on the thermostat housing with a replacement for the discontinued one (OEM work around: 89428-28030)

Overall it went pretty smoothly with the exception of the lock relays. It looks like a PO tried to get a handle on the lock situation at some point and installed new lock actuators. Or maybe they were a part of some remote unlock setup (in the receipt folder I got when I bought it there was a Viper install receipt). Anyways, I undid the splicing and removed the one relay that was taped to the plastic.

The list got a lot shorter this weekend! Pics of all of this would’ve been redundant as I relied heavily on the info already on the forum. So here’s a gratuitous pic from the last fishing trip:

I can’t thank everyone on here enough for their contributions! Made all of this work pretty smooth.

Getting “Knuckles “ ready for my kids to follow me on Rubicon in my BJ73 Crawler. Was popping out of 1st and 2nd under severe load when toy box was engaged. Replaced the shift seat in Transmission and problem solved! Next clutch replacement and send it!

Installed front half of OME lift. Back half tomorrow if weather cooperates. Learned that one of the easiest way to remove stuck bushing/ shackle pins is to drill straight through the old rubber bushings, making a circular pattern then brake bolt loose with a channel lock. Bushing just falls apart. Otherwise, Diablo sawzall blades lol. Have a fire extinguisher on hand

Got some help removing a remanufactured caliper that had a frozen piston that was destroying my rotors. This is the first time my truck has been up on stands like this in over a year, maybe 2 haha might as well do all new brake pads and get the rotors turned while im in here. The heat was turning my brake fluid black i think

Put all new drums, shoes, cylinders, hardware and adjusters on the back of my 60 today, and after a few tries even got them adjusted pretty well.
It hasn't been that long since I did the shoes and hydraulics, but it has been a lot of hard miles and pulling trailers through the mountains. Brakes were compromised after our last trip to Moab, and finally popped a wheel cylinder last week. It's nice to have good brakes again. I'll probably do new front stuff next month...

AC low pressure swap, aftermarket ac fan installation on a cut out relay box and took the bloody dashboard apart since AC blower fan was not running on full speed.

Finnaly found the speed switch contact needed some cleaning and light sanding 9 hrs later 🫤🫤🫤🫤.

I must clean everything at some stage !

I grabbed an Alternator Bracket and HBIM from @CruiserTrash a few weeks ago and finally got around to installing them this morning. I’m one of the rare few who didn’t actually need to swap out the bracket because I was able to get proper tension out of my factory bracket. I decided to grab a bracket anyway because I know at some point ill swap out the belt or something will happen and I’ll need that extra space that the new bracket provides. Cheap insurance and a nicely made part. I did manage to misplace the longer tensioner bolt when I did the Alt swap so, I’m going to need to remedy that at some point. I was able to swap out the bracket without the Alt moving though so it’ll be fine for now.

Threw the HBIM in while I was diddling around under the hood. It’s quite nice to have a functioning high beam indicator again.

At some point during the covid lockdown I scored a set of Aussy sliding rear windows off Ebay for a comedically low price. I put them off to the side with the intent on rebuilding and installing them at some point. Well, the kit from Rubber Seals Aus came in the mail a couple weeks ago so I dug these out to get started on rebuilding and installing them.

Then the dog and I went to get a coffee before doing all the Mothers Day stuff….

Very cool. And especially those windows; Idk why the Aussies got much cooler windows and we did in the US. I’ve thought about doing some Aussie style mods on my 60 somewhere down the line. Different windows and one of those sun visors.
