What did you do with your 60 this weekend?

Since I mostly hang out in the 55 section, I guess most people don’t know I own a 1989 fj62. When I met the girl who married me in early 1990, she was driving a red 1989 hilux. Red because that’s the color they had on the lot with the options she wanted.

A few years later, I found out what she had really wanted was a white 1989 FJ62, so (long story) I eventually found her a one owner example. She wants to keep it stock, so I’ve endeavored to do my best.

Last year I spent some time replacing every hose and belt on the truck as well as the valve cover gasket, fuel filter, air filter, etc. All OEM, and flushed the block and heater core. Replaced the thermostat because I thought maybe that was contributing to the lack of proper coolant temp, and of course one of the bolts broke in the lower thermostat housing. Drilled that out and installed an helicoil. Also rebuilt the birfs and went through the brakes, installed new linings and soft lines.

But some details have remained on the list.

The original owner had screwed a fire extinguisher to the floor vent. I bought a new mount from @CruiserTrash and installed it. Other than the tires and shocks, muffler, the helicoil in the lower thermostat housing and the non-OEM antenna nut, it’s the only non-OEM part on the truck.

I also changed out the cracked tail light lenses, cracked door cup, and solved the long-standing and annoying rub inside the steering column. This turned out to NOT be the horn ring.

Tomorrow it gets new OEM wiper arms and blades, new OEM lug nuts (2 of the originals had cracked, possibly due to wheel spacers the OG owner had installed), and I tackle installing a replacement OEM head unit that I bought from Cruiser Yard.

Still looking for a proper stainless antenna nut, I need to source and replace the front turn signal lenses, too.

I’m honored, I truly am. Being the only non-stock component on that original of a truck is an honor.

these look great. So these will be the manifold and the entire rear section ?

Manifolds and mid pipe designed to mate with the still-available OEM muffler/tailpipe.

Working on a 2F version as well to also utilize the 62 tailpipe (bolts in to a 60)

Doing some test driving on a recent project we are getting ready to send back to its owner in Durango.

FJ60 converted to turbo 3B about 15 years ago by a LC shop in CO.

We rebuilt the engine using a new OEM short block out of Yemen.

The engine was a shǐtshow as well as its install and systems integration. so we overhauled all the systems and re-plumbed everything in the correct ways.

Turbo was rebuilt… as well as injectors and all sorts of other assemblies.

Came out good. Still a 3B and all its inherent limitations. 500 mile breakin and shakedown today and tomorrow. That’s my job.

Tires have got to be 20 years old?

Can’t imagine spending all that time and not upgrading to a 1HZ

Tires are from 2012.

I don’t get to choose what clients want. They want what they want.
:meh:

Our job was only the engine and trans. Customer did not want any us to do anything else. :meh:

My slave cylinder went out on Monday. I replaced the flexible hose and cylinder. Adjusted it and now it’s dialed. Could not of done it without all the great resources within this site. Added bonus drove it into San Francisco to celebrate 19 years of marriage. Clutch worked excellent on those hilly streets.

Totally get it. We’ve had customers decline brake repairs when getting lift kits installed

Did something “basic” on Friday (the start of my weekend) as I prepare for the inevitability of my carb rebuild, new manifold gasket, vac hoses: OEM fuel filter. All parts coming from @cruisermatt

That aftermarket filter was DISGUSTING…

Nice. No, very nice. I'm running a 3FE exhaust on my 2F and this should be a bolt up option. What I have now is a welded exhaust downstream of where the down pipes bolt to the exhaust manifold. Every couple of years I'm having to make a trip to the exhaust shop for some repair.

Very interesting exhaust setup. That T pipe and small resonator probably takes all the drone out? I need to get a set of roller wheels like that. Nicely done as always.

That is the idea on the pre muffler resonator (Helmholtz design) the sound is incredible on other LS swaps we've used it on.

The Guni wheels are awesome for stationary work and keeping the build low during the assembly process. So much time and energy is wasted climbing up and down all day. NOW... moving the build around on these is a bit tiresome, but I'll deal with that all day compared to the up and down all day.

The while you are in there bug got ahold of me! I insulated the heat shield. If you look in the lower left corner there is a bolt directly behind the engine. This one bolt was hard to reach and has taken over an hour of my time, I can give it the one finger salute as it is done!
