What did you do with your 60 this weekend?

I own my grandfather's and my great grandfather's Lederhosen, we should start a gang.
My grandpa played in a German band in Ohio (I have a record they put out!) and I used to go to all the German festivals as a kid. My lederhosen are around somewhere, but they fit me when I was about 7 years old. Might be a bit of a squeeze to get them on these days!

I’m curious what this repair cost as I’m looking at a 62 w/ similar rust. Did you get the panels from cruiser corps? I frankly have no idea what bodywork should cost.
The driver side panel came with the car when I bought it. I got the passenger side from Wolf steel, came out to about $360 shipped. The shop said it fit fairly well and didn’t require much work to make it perfect.
Body work and paint came out to about $4,500 but that includes fixing two spots on the wheel well where the seat mounts are and painting the spare tailgate I had as well.

For the FJ62 kids, run don’t walk to replace the fuel regulator! It feels like a couple of more ponies kicking in there, a little more pep for sure! Thanks to @RevISK For the suggestion!

Removed one wheel apron, ground off the existing rubber undercoating applied by PO. Prepped, primed, then sprayed with Freebirn Red followed by clear coat. Nason paint products, Iwata HVLP gun.

The black smudges are WoolWax. Will do the others ASAP.

Doing a rear main seal on this FJ62 and found a busted ear on the bell housing. The tcase output flange is also bent so perhaps a hit on a rock or similar caused this. 🤷‍♂️

We tig welded it back on.

New rear main seal and oil pan gasket too.

Timing case and front main seal also done. New harmonic balancer too, the old was failing apart. You can see the new water pump too. Bunch of work going into this old crusty 62 to bring it back from the dead.

Cheers

Years and years of the Speedo pinion and or oring leaking looks like this. Some other leaks, possibly shifter seal, is contributing to the crust.

Doing some test driving on a recent project we are getting ready to send back to its owner in Durango.

FJ60 converted to turbo 3B about 15 years ago by a LC shop in CO.

We rebuilt the engine using a new OEM short block out of Yemen.

The engine was a shǐtshow as well as its install and systems integration. so we overhauled all the systems and re-plumbed everything in the correct ways.

Turbo was rebuilt… as well as injectors and all sorts of other assemblies.

Came out good. Still a 3B and all its inherent limitations. 500 mile breakin and shakedown today and tomorrow. That’s my job.

Since I mostly hang out in the 55 section, I guess most people don’t know I own a 1989 fj62. When I met the girl who married me in early 1990, she was driving a red 1989 hilux. Red because that’s the color they had on the lot with the options she wanted.

A few years later, I found out what she had really wanted was a white 1989 FJ62, so (long story) I eventually found her a one owner example. She wants to keep it stock, so I’ve endeavored to do my best.

Last year I spent some time replacing every hose and belt on the truck as well as the valve cover gasket, fuel filter, air filter, etc. All OEM, and flushed the block and heater core. Replaced the thermostat because I thought maybe that was contributing to the lack of proper coolant temp, and of course one of the bolts broke in the lower thermostat housing. Drilled that out and installed an helicoil. Also rebuilt the birfs and went through the brakes, installed new linings and soft lines.

But some details have remained on the list.

The original owner had screwed a fire extinguisher to the floor vent. I bought a new mount from @CruiserTrash and installed it. Other than the tires and shocks, muffler, the helicoil in the lower thermostat housing and the non-OEM antenna nut, it’s the only non-OEM part on the truck.

I also changed out the cracked tail light lenses, cracked door cup, and solved the long-standing and annoying rub inside the steering column. This turned out to NOT be the horn ring.

Tomorrow it gets new OEM wiper arms and blades, new OEM lug nuts (2 of the originals had cracked, possibly due to wheel spacers the OG owner had installed), and I tackle installing a replacement OEM head unit that I bought from Cruiser Yard.

Still looking for a proper stainless antenna nut, I need to source and replace the front turn signal lenses, too.
