Check timing

replacing my front seats. One to go.

now looking to source a good locking center console. Any suggestions?

Reinstalled my bumper swing away arms after at least a decade of sitting in the barn--think I got it right. Senior moment putting that tire up there--that was friggin' heavy, almost went and got my son to help but knew I wouldn't live it down if I couldn't do it myself. With that hi-lift I think I will need to look out for bridge clearances at overpasses now...

(That Red beast above rocks BTW - love those big meats!)

Tuffy and smittybilt have locking options that work. I bought a smitty because it was cheaper and it works fine.

What seats do you have there?
Did they require much modification?

Packed up and went with some immunised friends to Memaloose State Park chasing warm, dry weather. I’m not used to camping with bathrooms and running water so it felt a little spoiled.

On the way home the 60 was stumbling and hesitating at part throttle, starting from a stop or on the freeway in 4th. No good. I tossed in a bottle of Lucas with the next fill and I’ve been messing with it. Noticed this failed bellows on the accelerator pump circuit. it doesn’t respond to carb cleaner while the engine is on, and doesn’t appear to be leaking vacuum

I rigged up a vac line off manifold vac that used to go to the cruise control into the cab, and redid the factory carb tune procedure. got another 1” of vac and it’s a little more stable but it still sounds like there’s an exhaust leak or some other kind of pulsing. still can’t verify ignition timing but it is driving a little better. This 2f was desmogged by Torfab in 2013 so it’s not an EGR or emissions issue at first glance, but still only getting 15” of vac. I guess I need to buy a timing light.

I’m not keen to put too much cash into the carb setup because I have a Sniper ready to go on once I buy a Powersurge and the associated bits, so this is a stopgap measure.

I've had this problem recently. Once the boot fails, it can pull debris into that plunger. In my instance, it caused the pump to leak and eventually stick.

I would pull the top of the carb off, clean the bore and replace that seal.

I've been spending way too much time in the 40 forum lately (it's addicting!) but I got the 60 out this past weekend for more than just daily driving around town.
Took a 900 mile round trip from Durango to Las Cruces to see my much younger sister graduate from NMSU. the 60 performed great!

Cruised along at 70 MPH and 2,900 rpm for most of the trip, with occasional bursts up to 75 or 80 when passing folks. Not bad for the standard four speed on 31s
Prior to the trip, I checked all the fluids and such and decided that I might need to get the AC up and running again. Changed the O-rings out, recharged it (it's been converted to R134) and it was provided all the cooling I needed on days that approached 90 degrees.

Averaged 13 MPG, even with the AC on about half the time.

Really happy with the way it performed. It's the longest trip I've been on in the 60 in years. Only issue I had really was the the AC Idle up was set a little high and it stayed engaged from time to time even when I would turn it off. Also, the chrome trim on the A piller was rattling a bit when I was going 70 and had 40mph cross winds.

Turned over 184,000 miles on the old gal during the trip and she's as strong as she's ever been.

Putting the finishing touches on a big project. It fired up last night, I just need to pick up some more coolant after work and properly bleed it and recharge the A/C and set the timing.

Radiator, thermostat, fan clutch, every single coolant hose, OEM clamps, timing cover gasket, timing plate gasket, new oil jet, pushrod cover gasket, cleaned and painted a bunch of stuff, A/C o-rings, and repacked all the needle bearings in the smog pump.

It ran for about 15min last night and so far so good.

I like the spring clamps for that small hose!
I was using the Toyota screw type.
What’s the actual type required do you know?

Good call on this, I don't have a replacement piston yet so I pulled the bad bellows, verified the bore was clean, and installed the spare seal from the topside. The accel pump is spraying better now after a couple rounds of cleaner but I'm still only getting about 15" of vac at idle, and I can't find a vac leak anywhere. Most of my vac hoses are relatively new and everything I can see appears in good order.

I verified static timing is sitting right at ~7º advance, and both vac advancers seem to be working even though the inside of the dissy is kind of grungy:

threw on a new cap and rotor regardless, the old ones looked serviceable but wanted to rule out any points of failure. At this point I want to send the dissy off to Jim for a recurve but that might put my truck out of service for most of summer.

I had to find a spare to send him. I really feel the DUI HEI is a good deal once you find a distributor without a blown diaphragm, send it out to him and wait. It comes out within $75 on JimC’s price and it’s all new parts.

I recently swapped my City racer carb out for another one due to a similar issue. I had 50k on that carb.

I was able to get my vaccum pretty high and this is a really worn out 333,000 mile 2F.

I've been on that fence too, since I'm amassing the supporting parts for the Sniper and won't be using the Toyota vac advance at all anyway. I like the ease of using factory plugs and gaps, but eliminating the coil and having a physically larger spark is also attractive. Is there an option to have the Sniper control the DUI timing?

That’s over my pay grade. I’d call them and plan for it with your distributor purchase.

I don’t- they are OEM clamps, but since I got all the clamps and hoses together, I don’t know if they actually go there or not. I’d guess probably not. I have the parts diagram and I’ll see if it shows where they actually go.

Looks like you had great weather. What part of the Swell did you visit? My favorite places (so far) are the Chute of Muddy Creek and the Upper Black Box.
We had mostly great weather! Little wind storm on saturday made things interesting. We drove Buckhorn Wash, and camped along the San Rafael River Road, with a little Mexican Mountain wilderness exploration.
