What did you do with your 60 this weekend? (4 Viewers)

In advance of the weekend I got the A/C system buttoned up on my '86 FJ60 project vehicle. Conversion to R134a almost complete, with Toyota retrofit receiver/dryer from Cdan (obviously I've had it for a while now), new pressure switch, new expansion valve, compressor conversion adapters, new O-rings, and PAG 46 oil. Bought a MasterCool R134a gauge manifold and vacuum pump so I can do the A/C work on my own. Tomorrow morning I'll hook up the gauge manifold and do a leak check, if there aren't any leaks (I hope not) I'll pump down the system and charge it with R134a. Keeping my fingers crossed.

The engine bay is looking more and more complete every day. Once everything is ready to fire it up I'll pour a little more oil over the rocker arm assembly and dry the oil from the immediate area of the rocker arm holes where the oil comes out. Then I'll install the valve cover, air intake parts, and connect the rest of the wires and hoses. My wife gets to turn the key to start the 3FE, as she said, she's had to put up with the ongoing project for almost 2-1/2 years.

If it fires up I'll run it for a couple of minutes and remove the valve cover to check for oil at the rocker arms. If all looks OK I'll reinstall the valve cover and run it up to temperature so I can do a warm valve adjustment (I double-checked the cold valve adjustment done by the machine shop that rebuilt the 3FE and it was spot-on).

Jeez.....I'd like a table for 2 to dine on that engine tonight. Wow. Clean.

Is that a 60 converted to 3FE, or a 62 converted to round eyes?

Installed Blue Sea USB port in large blank in dash to right of the steering column.

Thanks, my goal is a good soft resto-mod. It's a rust-free '86 FJ60 I bought in Las Vegas over 15 years ago with basically no engine. I soon found a running '89 FJ62 with front end damage as an eventual donor vehicle. Finishing up on combining the two. More FJ62 than FJ60 if you think about it - 3FE, transfer case, axles, fuel system, brakes, interior, wiring, dash, power windows/door locks/mirrors, etc. Body and frame are FJ60 all the way, and I'm keeping an FJ60 exhaust system including the catalytic converter, muffler, and tail pipe. Can't wait to get done and see how the 3FE/H55f/4.11s and 235/85R16 BFG ATs performs. Based on what I've read here on MUD regarding that combination my expectations are high. Another positive about getting the project finished is that the FJ60 hasn't been on the road since 1995 - about time for the final resurrection.

BTW, it's been over 45 minutes since I closed the valves on my R134a gauge manifold and turned off the vacuum pump and the vacuum is holding steady on the low side at a little over 20 in Hg, which I believe is decent for 7,240 feet in elevation. If it's still holding after an hour is up I'll turn on the vacuum pump, open the valves, and pump down the system overnight. Then the dash can go back together (knowing the evaporator is OK) and the grille can be reinstalled (knowing the condenser is OK).

Helped my friend move her collection of clay pots to her new house w/ her boyfriend. She has a bit of a “problem” w/ how much is enough. Rear cargo and every seat except mine was filled.

Drove it around to get coffee after it sitting for a week while I was out of town. I found the trucks spirit animal.

I’ve got new hardware for the exhaust manifold ready to go on this week. The city racer carb is running really good and I can’t ask for anything more.

@Ogremoody I am sorry to read about Elmer - it was quite pretty. Did it bend frame and hit the engine?

I rammed a bull in Peru in my 62 four days ago. After 40-50 hours of pulling and pushing it looks like this.

It hooked the end of the frame rail and opened it up but not past the body mount

Brought out the 61 today. @CaptClose, @fl4031003 and @cwwfj60 were out today. Ryan had a great suggestion on taking the 61 to the SAS in August. If I do

the head gasket and do some base lining it’s a real possibility :). Really like the profile of this truck. Also, Cody helped with a rebuilt carb for my youngest sons 60. Runs excellent now. Thanks again!!!

Definitely!

Got the 8274 rebuilt and on the truck! Still need to tidy up the wiring (cables are too long on the 9.5xp contactor box), but its back together and runs like a scalded ape. The new style ARB tow points are better than I expected. I think I still may weld another plate on there to brace it a little, but it looks more solid than the old ones under the bumper.

I may also go back and install the spacers ARB included to raise it up just a little. I like being able to see the top of the bar to help me locate the front corners in tight spots.

Just curious how tge winch, bumper and grill fit. On mine Tge winch is in contact with the grill.

That is one good looking 61 right there

I read right past that.

The fit is not perfect. The 9.5xp motor has a molded piece around the end (I think its a heat sink) that makes it a little larger diameter than the original 8274 motor. I do have a little contact there. The grill is flexing a little, and I'll probably rub some chrome off, but I can live with it.

Hmmmm, something sounds off here, open relationship?
No. She’s my friend and she’s a girl. Good lord guys. And that was why I made sure to write ‘her boyfriend.’ I only play w/ men.

cmon, now! patina cant be appreciated from that distance...

Totaled Elmer. Guy in dodge dakota turned in front of me at 40mph. However I was into Elmer for 8k total and they gave me $13,800 and $800 to buy him back. Now I need to replace him or find a 60/62 that has no drivetrain.

Beautiful cruiser and that is a cryin shame.

I am surprised the insurance company offered that much for it. How did they come up with the $13,800?

I'm paranoid about mine getting totaled and the insurance company claiming its only worth $500 or some such due to its age.
