i drove with my family to calgary where we flew to mexico for the week. i climbed mt orizaba with a friend. that altitude kicked my butt but it was a great adventure.

I did pico years ago with my bro. Did you overnight in that hut at the base? I came from sea level and drove almost right to the hut. Spent all night with altitude sickness.

Congrats on bagging the peak, it's a beautiful climb!

And that's a nice looking '62 hiding under the snow.

cheers. i live at about 1500 feet. we spent three days with family at 7000 feet in puebla. we then went to the hut and did a climb to about 15000 came down and spent the night then pushed for the summit the next day. i could have used one more day to acclimating up there. i had mild high altitude pulmonary edema on my way down so needed some meds for a couple days but we were prepared for that. i had no AMS oddly enough. just the lung stuff. feel good now though

Drove in the woods, again. Getting in some fieldwork on a snake project.

In advance of the weekend I got the A/C system buttoned up on my '86 FJ60 project vehicle. Conversion to R134a almost complete, with Toyota retrofit receiver/dryer from Cdan (obviously I've had it for a while now), new pressure switch, new expansion valve, compressor conversion adapters, new O-rings, and PAG 46 oil. Bought a MasterCool R134a gauge manifold and vacuum pump so I can do the A/C work on my own. Tomorrow morning I'll hook up the gauge manifold and do a leak check, if there aren't any leaks (I hope not) I'll pump down the system and charge it with R134a. Keeping my fingers crossed.

The engine bay is looking more and more complete every day. Once everything is ready to fire it up I'll pour a little more oil over the rocker arm assembly and dry the oil from the immediate area of the rocker arm holes where the oil comes out. Then I'll install the valve cover, air intake parts, and connect the rest of the wires and hoses. My wife gets to turn the key to start the 3FE, as she said, she's had to put up with the ongoing project for almost 2-1/2 years.

If it fires up I'll run it for a couple of minutes and remove the valve cover to check for oil at the rocker arms. If all looks OK I'll reinstall the valve cover and run it up to temperature so I can do a warm valve adjustment (I double-checked the cold valve adjustment done by the machine shop that rebuilt the 3FE and it was spot-on).

if that cam is new, let it run in about 10-15 minutes

Let it run at a higher speed, 2000 - 2500 rpm. This is to harden the lobes of the cam and face of the lifter that rides on the cam.

Installed a group 31 aux battery. .
Darn tight, but with a little cutting grinding, and modifying the terminal post.... it fits..

Mine barely squeezed in there, but it did. Big military terminals led to sparks and 1/4" hole in the underside of the hood if they are not arranged perfectly. I am going to try turning it so that the pos terminal is towards the middle of the truck to get a little more clearance, but that will involve making some new cables. It works now, but I'm afraid to let anybody else under the hood because they might not stack the cables right when reconnecting it.

Got the 8274 rebuilt and on the truck! Still need to tidy up the wiring (cables are too long on the 9.5xp contactor box), but its back together and runs like a scalded ape. The new style ARB tow points are better than I expected. I think I still may weld another plate on there to brace it a little, but it looks more solid than the old ones under the bumper.

I may also go back and install the spacers ARB included to raise it up just a little. I like being able to see the top of the bar to help me locate the front corners in tight spots.
