When it rains, it pours I guess. Just got done doing calipers, pads, and rotors for my GF’s Xterra. Today my GX is lit up with check engine, VSC TRAC, and VSC OFF.

Scan tool shows P0442: Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Small Leak), and there’s a weird mechanical humming noise coming from the center console area with the ignition set to on.

Fuel cap is only a year old. So I doubt it’s that. Pretty sure the only way to fix this is paying a shop to do a proper smoke test of the EVAP system.

May I share my experience/journey (albeit P043E&F and no humming under console) and fix...

Xmas tree.ligjts and codes:

Then dealer scan and.finally evap canister swap (surprisingly easy)

Good luck 🤙

Replaced the TRD reps with Falcon T2s. Very happy with them!

Thanks! Not sure if I saw it on here or Reddit, but I 100% stole the idea from someone else.
Just did the same tonight. Was only planning on doing one light per side as I had a pair of harbor freight rock lights, but ended up just connecting both to the factory harness on one side, and I'll just buy another pair and do the other side soon. Very happy with the results so far, just have things zip tied for now as it was getting late, but I plan on mounting them in the same fashion you did.

I also changed all of my interior bulbs to LED's and my driver's side windshield washer nozzle to a 2nd gen Tacoma one that sprays a mist instead of 3 streams.

Here is the unit I purchased on BF.

Highly recommended and a very straight forward install even for the inexperience like me!

I installed my Joying head unit last night and it is such an improvement over my other 9" Android that I bought from AliExpress. That one (Zohong brand) was running Android 8 and was extremely slow to respond and would crash every once in a while. Customer service blamed it on me having too many apps installed when I only had Google maps and YouTube music on it. They wouldn't offer a software update either. So glad I upgraded!

I'll sell my old one for super cheap if anyone is interested in tinkering around with it. It works, but is very slow so be warned.

Was it a factory Lexus cap? If not, quite possible it’s the cap

Gas cap was just loose. Friend had borrowed the truck the day before. I’m guessing they didn’t tighten it after adding gas. I took it off, tightened it until clicks, and cleared the codes. 150 miles of driving and 1 fill up later, and no codes or lights.

Seen a lot of suggestions for oem caps, but this one from O’Reilly’s has been fine for a year. Will grab an oem one if it happens again. Just thankful it isn’t an actual evap leak. That could have gotten expensive real quick.

Nice rig! I thought I had one of the only Missouri GX's on here. I'm on the other side of the state as you (Farmington), although we also have a lot of good backroads and some decent trails over here as well.
Indeed! maybe we'll cross paths one day. I need to get back to Johnson shut-ins and elephant rock

Sweet fix!!!!!

go OEM, not oreiley or even napa....although, in hindsight my codes (different from yours) ended up being the whole evap canister as my gas caps didn't resolve the issue through time, either one..

Man, I was thanking the universe for that one. Spent those 150 miles on pins and needles, just waiting for that light to come back on.

At this point - based on everyone’s suggestions- I think I’ll snag an oem one just to be safe.

source??
looks good on silver, me likey!! 😈
hows the illumination with double reverse lights Assuming you're keeping GX and have wired the prados. . . ??
I got them on Yahoo Auctions Japan! Yeah they look great, better than I anticipated even.

I've left reverse to the tailgate lights. Right now, the top is pinned for brake light, the center is turn signal, and bottom is running light when headlights are on. I need to get red LED for the bottom set so they glow red at night but otherwise it's perfect

I replaced the tires Bilstein 5100s (7+ years) with OME 90000s for a slightly firmer ride. I already had OME 885 springs.

Well, “firm” is a relative term and now my Lexus rides like a 3/4 ton pickup. I hope the addition of a winch up front and a few weeks of break-in improves this.

Picked the GX up from the dealer today, took it in for the side curtain airbag control module recall.
I was pretty blown away when I got a text with a full walkthrough of the vehicle and any recommended services. Ended up having a leak on the rear of the tcase so got them to replace that and flush the diffs (128k)
This is my first luxury brand vehicle and I can’t say I’m used to that kind of service lol.

Are you able to access the reverse camera at any time in any gear? Or will it only turn on in reverse?

Little suspension update/upgrade time. Factory suspension was clapped out and this new stuff is oh so nice. Just did this yesterday so it will take some time to settle but I’m happy with the results so far. Have an alignment scheduled for Tuesday and then it’s time to do some more clearance work to get the tires to fit a little better
