What did you do to your pig today?

this morning, i thought about welding up the track bar for the pickle only to face the reality that i really need to work on the 4skinner. so instead, i'm inside scanning newsletters for the state 4wd association.
You need to get rid of that 4Runner that is hogging all your Cruiser wrenching time ;-)

Much too nice out to be inside today!

Took apart every wire between the battery & alternator & starter, wire brushed everything, looking for anything that would explain the intermittent charging problem I've been having for months...anything outside of a bad diode or voltage regulator.

i am outside now ;)....blown head gasket. pighead and i both looked at it to make sure it was correct and the bolts were still torqued as evidence by the cracking loose and the suction when i pulled them out...stupid cheap ass chinese crap. head's almost off. tried pulling the upper plenum, but it appears to like life right where it is, so i'll pull the harness from the ecm and yank it as an assembly again. just means assy will be a bit more delicate. last time there were two of us. this time it'll just be me. if a new gasket doesnt' fix it, it will go. will just need to find a replacement for the 80 by december, hopefully something that will allow pickle time.

Today I used pigtown to winch a 74 pig onto a trailer to come back to the barn. It's not for me but for a friend of the barn. It's been dubbed "thin mint" already since my buddy the brand new and first time cruiser owner is not a very big guy.

Looks like a straight Piggy!

Went to look at this 72 last weekend

Then went to look at this one yesterday, a 1970

Both in rough shape. The orange one used to be a sweet truck, anything valuable, including almost the entire interior is gone (PTO Winch and Overdrive were already gone :frown:) The red one was actually a decent candidate for restoration or resto/mod. Floor pans gone and fenders rotted, but the updated motor (1.5F I think) would have been worth it (still thinking about buying this one).

Half the fun is the search.

The pictures did not come through for me...

Found a little miss, or hesitation, on acceleration after the wash bay session yesterday. Pulled the plugs, wire brushed them, and it seems to have gone away.
Might have just been wet wire contacts, don't know, don't care as long as it's gone.
Took apart the heater hoses, replaced the one cracked duct from the fan to the box, liberally applied duct tape, 'cause it's a duct after all, found lots of leaky spots between the fan and the defrost outlets (and defrost is all I really care about lately) duct taped up everything else. If I want to vent, I'll roll down another window.
Put my skidplate back on. Yes, I'm missing some bolts. Seems one captured nut has escaped, one seems to just be stripped...so have just 4 3/8ths bolts holding up a 200 pound skidplate...

Pighead, you make that skid plate?

No. WAY beyond my skill level. It came with the doubler setup I bought off Morgan, years ago. Morgan says it's a Butch built skidplate, but you know how Morgan can be full of it sometimes. It is way beefy though.

It does look good. You need something like that, where you go. I've got to make a heavy one for my gas tank, but I'm still not following Pighead! I just need to keep the shopping carts out from under there.
