I don't know what you're towing with, but how about a trailer. It sure would be nice to just pull up on the trailer and take off. It would be alot nicer if you broke something, to just winch her up and go home.

Doing some stuff to it.... installing a lunchbox locker.... hope it gets me through the Rubithon. This will be my first go. I've got everything else so far... just need that full sized spare.

Had a bit of a trouble with the pinion shaft retainer pin being busted inside the pinion shaft ( the one that holds the spiders). Accidentally left the bearing retainer off while I beat the **** out of the pinion shaft so as to break what was left of the retainer pin, and so I had to pull the third and have a friend reset the bearing preload... left that to a pro.

If I can't fix it, I'll fix it so no one else can!

Buddy?

Hey buddy did you ever figure out how to make our Parking brakes work?

Looks like your location should say under shade tree - not garage? ;) Lost my garage in a divorce now my location should be driveway? :frown:

One of the places I'm looking for as an after work living place is Grass Valley Maybe in your neighborhood?

OH man... that farking parking brake.... I have had to constantly adjust the play on the thing and I can get it to work well enough, but there is no way I could walk away without having the thing in gear... no way. I don't get it, but I think it just needs to be tinkered with on a regular basis... every three months get under there and adjust it maybe. I think it will pass the test for the Rubithon though. I've got it pretty well tight right now and it works but not like the old drum. Wish they still had those kits....
Grass Valley is really nice. I grew up near there. I now live in Winters, down in the valley, but at least on some property and privacy. We moved due to my wife getting a better job. Now I spend my money driving to cool places... ha! Not so much interesting areas immediately around here, but not too far away.

I fired it up for the first time in 5 weeks. bout friggin time too. thru all adversity, trials, and tribulations, the new motor GROWLS...now to find a free muffler- CAUSE I'm brOKE now:doh: looks like I'll be scrappin steel to buy gear oil:hillbilly:

Swiss sheet metal

I decided my nicely painted and sealed gas tank needs to go back in, so I jacked up the piggy tail and crawled under with a wire brush and steel wool. An hour later I got impatient and went in a new direction... The pressure washer direction. Judging by my clothes and the dirt on my face I think it worked. It even served the dual purpose of finding new/unknown rust holes in the cargo floor and rear side panels. Huzzah! So after 2 showers (3 if you count the pressure washing), the rear frame is shiny black, and the rear underside of the body is coated in bedliner. I think I'll give the pressure washer a break for a while. Finding more rust is too depressing.

blue pig has been enlisted back in daily driver duties since the 80 got the crap beat out of it at rubithon (and the trip there and back). fortunately, my parking brake works just fine and will hold it on my sloped driveway while we deal with getting in and out of the gate :D

Dizzy fun.

Was getting ready to send this dizzy off for work, thought I'd better check the vac advance diaphragm first. So I sucked on it, plate did not move...(uh oh). Tried using another vac advance unit, still no move...so I took the plate off, took it apart, cleaned it all up and put it back together again. Now it works. Just another example of how easy it is to fix an old Pig.

Introduced it to it's older cousin...

If there's anything simpler than an old Cruiser, it's an even older Jeep. The old '56 CJ5 hadn't been started in three years. Opened the garage door, squirted a shot or two of starting fluid in the carb, it cranked over once or twice and fired right up. Didn't even need to charge the old 6-volt battery.
To be clear, I love my Pig and have now owned five 55s. But the old family Jeep took us on our honeymoon 44 years ago and up to 11,200 feet outside of Crested Butte Saturday with nothing more than washing off the dust, topping off the tank and a set of new (used) shoes.

Jim,

great pictures, brought back some memories. My Uncle sold jeeps back then and everybody in the family had them. My Dad had two stationwagons. Should of keep them, last one was a 64.

Congratulations on your marriage, it must be a great one, to last that long.
