Yeah I would highly recommend it. It was time well spent. Even though the majority of the wiring is not on the exhaust side of a 1FZ-FE, it still endures a ton of heat therefore everything was brittle. Keeping moisture out is obviously important too. It was one of those "while I'm in there" things, but I got a little obsessed with cleaning. ih8grease

Ms LCP wanted to go shooting. Jumped in the 80 and within 1/2hr I was sitting up targets

Replaced both motor mounts. I noticed a rattle and couldn’t track it down for the longest time. Ended up being the mounts, they failed and the motor had shifted about 3/8” causing the metal on metal sound.
If you haven’t replaced them they are probably shot.

With the help of Steve at Sonoran Steel, we replaced my 8000lb S_ittybilt winch with a Comeup 9.5rs and a Factor55 Prolink. Now I meet the 1.5x winch rating and have way more confidence in my winch.

Steve made me a custom bracket for the controller to fit on the Slee Shortbus bumper.

No pictures but swapped in a black hub fan clutch from a 93 landcruiser and @medtro added some voodoo fluid, we will see hot this adjusts my running temps. No issues before, just ran about 5 degrees warmer than LCP and a few others. Roars to life first thing in the morning for sure.

Jackson, did you rebuild the starter while you were in there? Is the rats nest New or is it leftover from one of prior culprits who met the snap of the trap?

No, I didn't rebuild the starter. Contacts and plunger look good enough for my standard. I then looked at the part number, it is a Toyota Reman starter so it was replaced before.

I am going to guess the nest is new due to different building materials.

Old knuckles are off, new bearing races and inner seal installed.
Now I just have to wait for the alignment tool from Trail Tailor ...
I could also tear into the front diff and add the aussie locker. 20180105_131633.jpg 20180105_131552.jpg

Did some old rubber restoration on FJ60 D pillars vents. The old gaskets around the plastics vents was so hard it was about to break in to pieces. I tried a recipe that is used by the old hot rodders and posted in another section on mud. Use one part oil of wintergreen and 4 parts isopropyl alcohol 70% mix in a ziplock bag and add the rubber parts, ensure coverage and seal the bag. Wait overnight.

Here is what they look like now, like brand new rubber. The parts still need a day or two of drying time but the results are amazing.

I also made gaskets and rubber flaps for the vent tube that go inside the D pillar, the flaps rot and break off leaving the vents open and allowing dust to enter. I made multiple flaps for others in the 60 club.

The rubber swells a bit so it will take a few days to shrink back but if you have old rubber parts and gaskets that are no longer available or you are trying to keep the original patina this process works very well.

Next step is to install these first completed parts in to a friends 60 and pull out some new donor vent tubes and vents and make the next one.

So does a FJ62 qualify as part of the 60 club?

Last week made a trip up north to haul a FJ25 back to the valley I need to work on.
    IMG_2820.JPG

Steering was removed from this one to get a old FJ40 home from a junk yard. This the one that got the steering and the one on the trailer that it came from.
    IMG_2834.JPG
Not sure of the tire size but lowest point of the frame in the middle has over fifteen inches ground clearance.
    IMG_2835.JPG

This is with the original springs and shocks. Only seen these pads on original FJ25 springs.

sorry for the poorly lighted pic - it's some goldish color . . .

 - taken just between when the GX threw the CEL code and the 1.5 hour mark to leave for the airport to make our flight back to Baton Rouge - mind you, in that time I also helped to get the LX squared away for storage until the new motor build
