What did you do on your 70 series today? (18 Viewers)

Took the HZJ73 out on its first trip. Got to test it out on some mild trails.
Also, finally got the troopy back after getting the long range fuel tank installed. Pretty sweet to be able to fill up once for a trip and come home with half a tank left.
I'll need to start looking into exhaust shops as the old exhaust had to be cut out to make space for the tank. Sounds like a semi truck right now. I'm considering having the new exhaust dumped out to the side.

did you replace the knuckle housings too?
negative. I ended up being able to get most of the cemented on Omani dust/dirt/sand off with a wire wheel. I had purchased an entirely new left side knuckle housing, but ended up not using it.

I thought you converted from power locking hubs to manual? What’d you do with the hole in the housing where the cable on the backside of the spindle goes?

I did not have power locking hubs. I had the non selectable hubs similar to a 100 series.

Hello,

Time for maintenance.

Brake pads are still good for another 5000 km. So are tires. Engine oil has become expensive around here. Manufacturing shortages, I was told.

My mechanic also told me that 71 Series are becoming "classic cars" (whatever that means) in my neck of the woods.

Where is your neck of the woods?

Found a used ARB front end in Guatemala for about $550. Had a custom rear bumper built off an existing design, full build + paint and install was about $650 so fair bit cheaper than back home for sure. Stiffer mystery rear springs in the back and had the radiator re-cored and they replaced the top plastic with aluminum. New injection pump plus a bunch of regular maintenance too.

After shipping delays and a backlog at the body shop, I finally have it back in my possession. They did a really good job matching the paint.

Those IMS sound like they are supposed to be fantastic. Very tempting.
Might be premature to tell but my butt says that the IMS and spring combo make for a great upgrade over a newish stock suspension.

Lift is complete. Tie rod ends and an alignment when I get back from vacation.

Front springs: HJ75-8L-F
Front shocks: IMS59-50705
Rear springs: HJ75-6+2-R
Rear shocks: IMS45-60115
Damper: SD59-824

You used the "D" brand suspension upgrade?

Did you do it yourself?

Wondering how long it took you?

Dobinsons? If so yes.

Did it myself over the course of two days.
1st day did the front, 2nd day did the read.

Took me maybe 6 hours all together, it probably would’ve taken a lot longer if the truck was rusty or the suspension was old. Also felt confident after @Loober helped me a few years ago with the suspension on my 74.
