Seriously, the 1vd is imho a bit underrated. They are stupid reliable just like the FTE and other than the common rail system are actually easy to work on. The 200 series variant is useless in a swap unless you can deal with the immobiliser but in the main I think when you guys are able to start importing them you'll be able to work them out easily.

I totally agree. I was so pumped the first time I got to crawl all over a 1VDFTV block at a Toyota dealer in Aus. Mind you were driving around the globe with VDJ7x‘s and I had just spent a few days in the HEMA VDJ200 (tt, chipped, exhaust). You could say I‘m into them :D

Just the exhaust and variable geometry turbo note would be addictive. 😊

I saw a really nice 73 series today in my home town of Ocracoke island NC. ! Its kinda rare to see other 70 series land cruisers here on the island because its so hard to get to. You have to take a ferry to get here. no bridge! I parked next to it and got a photo! if the owner of this land cruiser is on here hit me up!

Lube, oil, filter and inspect for Cruise Moab. I use this little beast for the San Rafael Swell trip I lead each year for 40 of my Cruiser family. It's usually the smallest tired rig but gets it done!

Shackles, pins & interleaf liners - Greased
Fresh oil with Japanese filter (couldn't bring myself to use a 41010 :D )
Fresh OE air filter
New brake pads - these last ones were getting thin. I'll do rotors on the next rotation.

I think @Shyrock and/or @theglobb know that cruiser. I think he's down near Wilmington or has made an appearance there. Neat ride and cool story behind it

I believe that is the BJ74 @Shes Mad restored. Has changed hands a few times since.

If it is the grille, turn signal lamps and wheels have been changed.
It did, as seen here. The giveaway is the modified ARB bumper to fit the PTO winch.

Got to lend a hand with getting a pretty sweet project back in motion today. This is going to be so cool when it is done!! @olivertwist

I took my BJ73 to it's natural habitat this weekend. Starting with some green lanes in Southern Limburg (NL), where we visited a 1843 wind mill, crossing the Eifel Vulcanic Natinal Parcs (BE & GER) and ended playing in a stone pit with impressive vulcano geology exposed.
En route we also did a bit of speleology on a vulcano cave.
A great trip my buddy and me experienced. So much fun. 😃

Cool caving stuff. You don’t carry a spare tire, right?

Picked up a hitchhiker at about 65mph...rode with me for 50 miles or so, dropped him off in this parking lot. Didn't realize it was there until a lady pointed it out "...you've got a friend here."

I ended up talking to Brad yesterday. He is a really cool guy. It was awesome to see his unique and pristine land cruiser. it gave me some ideas for mine as well and I certainly was jealous of it. I am hoping to meet up with him and maybe @Shyrock and @theglobb or anybody else haha in Wilmington sometime in late summer. Maybe sooner. Its good to have a land cruiser presence in eastern NC!

Edit:
@svsisu hopefully we can make an Ocracoke or Avon meet up soon!

A non-US-compliant engine less than 21-years-old is not road legal.

I know we have gotten this thread back on topic.....but about being able to use an 'illegal' engine in the States before its 21 years old...

Sure, it may be a bit of a loophole challenge to get an entire running 'illegal' engine here, and for sure not the entire truck, but why not just build one from parts? Other than the cost and complexity?

Then once its here, you can put it in any vehicle in any state/county that doesn't require OBD2 compliance or emissions inspections. Pretty sure this is the process behind the diesel toys conversions.

For the most part here in NC, anything before 1996 is just 'safety' (lighting and tires and wipers, etc) inspections and after 35 years old, no inspections at all. I can run any engine I want in a legally registered truck. Even a 2022 Turbo Diesel V8 from Toyota.
