Good morning fellas.

I heard back from David @ Japan4x4 and he gave me some “news”. Long story short, I’m just gonna have to wait on @cruisermatt at this point, which I’m totally fine with.

Edit: I suppose for sake of conversation: number is 16100-61130 or 16100-61071 (I believe that’s the Canadian spec one according to what David told me).

Keep at it man. You're on the right track.

I believe the 61071 would have come as a complete assy with a fan clutch. Long NLA.

Strongly recommended when you get the pump from CruiserMatt, you also get a new fan clutch, if yours is old/original. Aisin FCT-017

Copy that. I told Matt today that I’d keep him updated on what else I might need, “While I’m there”…

Easy to order here, ships today*

Water Pump - Fits 1/1979 - 7/1987 2F W/Oil Cooler (EGW61081AFT) - https://cruiserteq.com/water-pump-fits-1-1979-7-1987-2f-w-oil-cooler-egw61081aft/

We've sold/installed countless GMB Japan pumps over the decades, good results and great partners. Site shows two but I'm pretty sure we have many more on pallets waiting to add to site.

*I'm on the tail end of a massive Africa traverse, exploring and tracking down Cruisers and parts. Site inventory should be accurate if not under-stated.

EDIT, if you in fact need the 16100-61071, that is a different pump. It has the same 121mm height and fan clutch hub but does not have the oil cooler line provision. We have those in AISIN and aftermarket too, part# EGW61070 and EGW61070AFT respectively.

Hello hello, gents. I recently got all new parts (WP, hoses, bolts, belts, etc) courtesy of @cruisermatt

I do want to provide an update now that I’m taking some stuff apart…

The good: None of my TSTAT housing bolts decided to break, I’ve heard that was something to be aware of. And that’s pretty much “the end” of the “Good”. LOL.

The irritating/“bad” part(s): I’m gonna have take the alternator out and in conjunction, the bracket. It is literally in the way of me making any forward progress as far as removing every hose camp in the area.

I also discovered a loose bolt just beneath the A/C compressor that I have NO idea what it connects to…what it is/was, it’s long gone. I’ll provide a photo as well.

That is the mounting for the AC belt idler pulley. They are usually missing. Not a huge deal actually.

Here’s a question I wanna ask since I’m referring to to the SM and just making sure I understand to do this properly.

I don’t have to take the new pump apart, do I? I ask because it seems that way (unless I’m either over complicating this or just can’t read 😂), or are those “disassembly” and “assembly” bits for diagnostic purposes only?

Not sure exactly what you're referring to with the water pump, but it's a sealed unit, no disassembly. You may be looking at the FSM part about rebuilding the WP. Ignore that, if that's what you're looking at.

Some people (I do) take the backing plate off and smear a thin film of Coolant-resistant RTV on the gasket between the pump housing and the backing plate, as well as the gasket that goes between the pump and the block. Not required, but good practice.

Clean the block surface well and make sure there's no bits of old gasket remaining.

Good luck.

You’d be correct; that’s exactly what I was looking at…I was just making sure I wasn’t gonna do anything silly.

Got it, thank you 🫡

Absolutely. 😅 I definitely do NOT wanna have to redo this…it’s enough agony that my 60 has been sitting idle for the last month since this problem reared itself.
Better get yerself a real JIS screwdriver if you’re serious about this truck. Philips head isn’t gonna cut it!
