Did not get a ton done today.

These trucks have front drums so the whole front will be pulled apart and replaced with FJ60 knuckles. I got them cleaned and prepped today

I started in on the rear

Brakes look great. Went to drain the 90wt and the drain plug was mangled so I had to weld a nut on it.

And big bonus, Red dropped by to inspect my work.

Off to get my dog at the groomer and then to the club meeting.

Definitely the 255s. Nolen do those Dobinson springs throw the front axle forward a bit? The tires look more forward in the wheel well than mine. Just curious.

Probably a bit more than OME but it’s a completely different design.

Higher arch. Thinner leafs designed to use a vertical shackle. It flexes back to the center when at full stuff.

I had a guy with a 40 that wanted me to center his for looks and at full stuff it hit the fender versus landing in the middle.

Well since I still have the original 6 leaves in front and 10 in the rear, there is no "full stuff". 😂

Very similar to an OME design. These ride so much better.

The only front drums I’ve ever dealt with are the pre 76 US fronts. They use a 50mm socket and small 10 spline birfs and small pattern kingpin

These are a wild mix. It really looks like you could put a backing plate eliminator on this and bolt 60 discs on.

I’ve got a 60 kit but I think there are a lot of similar parts.

Spindles look exact.

Drum hub is slightly different looking.

45 steering arms fit the 60 knuckle.

Makes sense they would try to have the same parts but still odd me they stuck with turd drums in the front

Is there a difference in ride quality if the IMS shocks are turned the other way with the dust covers on the top? Thanks and love this new troopy build.

They are not designed to run that way but you could ask them if it changes performance. I don’t personally know

Got the passenger side out. Had to weld a nut to ge the drain plug out again.

I’ll drop the 3rd after lunch and start putting it all back together

That is lightening turn around time….less than 2 hours? I have never done a job like this that quickly and these days my hopes have seriously dwindled. Do you know I am still working on getting my right ambulance door glass re-installed? It about a week now

I was putting the passenger side axle in and the gears in the ARB were not matching so I reached in to turn the flange and it did not move.

What the F. I had just spun it before

Wait, there is a dent in the front of the housing.

Son of a B…..I guess the old ring gear had clearanced itself. This is why you use a paper gasket and not RTV…..nothing to do but pull it out and see what’s what
IMG_1714.webp

Sure enough.
IMG_2531.webp

It did not take much. Once I released the pressure on the bolts it spun free so I did not need to do much. I used this big solid rod and hammered it back some then smoothed out the edge

I lifted this heavy SOB back up and tightened it back up.

Success.

Back to the build. I hate a backtrack like that

Got one side done with new hub studs and OEM nuts. Moving my kid back to college tomorrow so I’ll pick this party back up on Monday. Hard to believe it’s only been here 7 days
