A few unicorns landed on my porch today and got caught! These genuine jerry can holders have been stored in the back of a Toyota dealership since the late 1960's! Notice the period detail such as the cotton webbing pads inside the holder, which differs from the rubber pads in later holders. Given its museum worthiness, I've decided to donate one piece to the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum if @cruiserdan will accept.
That means 2 pieces are up for grabs in my store, for now. I will secure additional stock, but those won't likely be available until later this year.

Where did these holders originally go on a cruiser?

For the 70 Series there is a frame bracket that bolts to a special pair of left rear door hinges. Here is the bracket, I do not have a photo of the door hinges handy. I believe Alberto is the source on this photo. Note the later straps and pads.

@cruiserdan I don't know why I've never known about this priceless museum before just now and I go to Utah at least once a year. Been on this site for years and never saw this for some reason. I feel so ashamed. The next time I'm there I'll have to drop by and check this place out. Is it open everyday or only by appointment or events?

Also I just went to the website and saw this thing called CruiserFest going down in September so I might have to make it to that.

I was able to locate the photo of the door hinges on a 70. I borrowed this photo from Alberto's 70 Series build.

no place from what I can tell. I think Marv told me there was a swing away carrier(like the tire carrier) he had seen 1-2 of(middle east?), but I might be wrong or he was talking about a 70 series like Cdan shows. don't think anything(for 40 series) shows up in the parts books even back in the 60's beside the can.

I have seen the carrier in an old paper catalog but no reference regarding attachment.

yes can and carrier

The museum's recently aquired 1953 BJT has a factory can carrier on the back panel, left hand side.

I have seen these affixed to the hardtop/rear tub above wheels on a '78 FJ40. I wish I had paid more attention when I attempted to purchase it.

It was an original owner piece as well and all stock.

how about some nice pics of the carrier and can on the BJT?

If bracket nla I am sure one could be fabricated...........................

So great seeing the history of the expedition can and bracket. I believe it was a "non-USA" part for Toyota. I know the wharehouse in Kentucky has several cans there but Toyota will not allow USA dealers to order them. Used on the 40 and 70 series I believe? I was told by a Toyota parts guy that is why USA dealers cannot order them. Available in other countrys though.........................

Would be great to see them on rigs, anyone have some pictures?

Toyota is a global operation and there are "Japan" warehouses that are located on other continents. There are two of them in the US. One in California(NAPCC) and one in Kentucky (NAPCK). These warehouses service US parts distribution centers and they also ship off-shore to other markets.
NAPCC handles mostly Japan-sourced parts and NAPCK does mostly North American-sourced parts.

I get that it is just a bummer when the parts guy says I show "X" in the Kentucky wharehouse but we can't order them! Other countries can order them from our Kentucky wharehouse but not us..................:(

Up until the gas pedal debacle of 2010 it was often possible to get non-US parts shipped as long as they were physically in a warehouse on US soil. It was also possible to get non-US parts loaded into the system and place off-line orders for them.

After 2010 our litigious society caused Toyota to re-think it's exposure to ambulance chasers and all that cool stuff got shut off.
