If you have a fan shroud, the position of the fan blades in the shroud is very important to maximize airflow. Looking from the side of the engine, the fan blades should be half in and half out of the shroud. If the fan is too far inside of the shroud, it won’t pull as much air through the shroud as it could. Instead it will create turbulence inside the shroud, spinning the air, but not efficiently pulling it through. If the blades are not far enough inside the shroud, the fan will pull air from around the shroud rather than through it.
 
What were you doing when it got up to 240?

This was the crazy part.... it was so random.... I would be just driving through town and stop for a light and it would just creep up, or sometimes driving on the highway. One day I drove to work after doing some changes, and it was 220 all the way to work on the highway... thought I had it fixed, then on the way home it was going up to 240.

A/C on or A/C off had a little effect, but not much.

When I did expect it... Pulling the trailer up the pass in Colorado... it did fine mostly, but did get up to 240 twice, so pulled over and let it cool down.

Thank you for posting this tech.... exactly what I was reading, however, I did not see the 1" gap it shows around the sides. I did about 3/4" -- hopefully that is good.

Sounds like a sticky thermostat to me. At least it's very easy ro swap in a new thermostat. As far as the fan, I was never happy with the gm clutch fan personally.
 
Did you put in a new thermostat, water pump and did you have the radiator cleaned? The shroud will make a huge difference, but it would be good to figure out why it was overheating randomly.

Yes, new thermostat in there. I was thinking of taking it out, even bought a new gasket... but when I heard that Proffitts had similar issues and the solution was to add mechanical fan, that ended my curiosity.... and started 8 hours of shroud building....

Remember the old EF Hutton commercials... yeah, that is what I felt like when Jeremiah and I discussed what they have done successfully. On another note... I also learned there are a few more 70 series LS swaps out there....

 
Got the intake made. Bought a 4 inch to 3 1/2 inch adapter and welded on to the previous parts. Had to move my winch mount, so i made a plate across the front. My tuner had said at highway speeds the air pushing through around the headlight can make the engine run strange, so killed two birds with one stone. One note, the rubber intake bend had to be trimmed about three-quarter inch to keep it away from the fan.

Next up was to add an air tank and fix the rear door swing out.

Next up is to install an alarm system... I cant find any threads about installing them on the 70 series forum. Anyone know if there is info in someone's build thread?

Installing a Viper alarm, which is really a directed alarm. Not doing remote start for now. I bought this when I planned for it to be a stick shift....

While I was working on my alarm, I realize that the door lock actuator on my driver door was not unlocking all the way. The door lock actuator looked familiar, so dug in my 80 series stash and I found they are the same, so popped one in. It worked better, but not perfect. Just found aisen part number is still available, DLT088, so ordered one of them.

Cut the alarm finished and install the carpet. Looks so much better. Look forward to seeing how much quieter it is.

Next step is to finish storage behind the seats to the drawer system.

Rear storage rough in. Trying to decide if I put hinged lids on them. Will need to do at least one for dog bed area. Bolts to the Arb storage unit with aluminum angles.

Just realized I never made a bash plate to protect the radiator underneath. Are there any US options available now, or still have to import from OZ?

In case you’re wondering, no, these are not the right floor mats. Passenger side fits fine. Driver side does not have the item for the bump on the left side.

Turned out great. Your early picture of this project inspired me to build something similar. Started last weekend. I like how you extended to front to utilize the space around the wheel wells as additional cubbies.

FYI, I was not super impressed with the carpet from Amazon. I expected something heavier like what is on the ARB, and it was not that heavy. I could not find anything else that looked better, so used what I had. The bad was that it showed staples, so I ended up gluing it all down with Super 77.

Really happy with it overall, just wanted to give you some info.
