Looking at adding an Ultragauge. Don't think I need the top end model as I don't plan on beta testing their new capabilities.

All I'm really looking for is a way to monitor temp and keep a closer eye ont he trucks vitals. Any reason to spring for the plus model? Any owners care to chime in?

Thanks!

Also, can anyone let me knwo what to expect? IE does it change the way the vehicle runs while it 'learns' from the computer? Do I need any of the accessories - isolation cable, etc? Thansk for all help.

I'm not familiar with the ultragauge; I have a scangauge 2, and have had it for a couple of years. I bought it to monitor the temp in the 80 (and discovered that my radiator needed replacement, bought a Koyo and all is well). It has worked just fine, monitors all that I need, switches between readings as needed. Hope this helps. Ned

I have an ultraguage, you just connect it and it does its thing. you barely know its there. It doesnt alter how the vehicle runs. This only works if you have an OBDII vehicle 96 or newer. There is only so many sensors that report diagnostics, so even if you get the top model the vehicle ECU only gets inputs from what its setup for. So IMO I woudnt get the top of the line. I use mine as a speedo and to monitor engine temps, trip computer, mpg used etc.

Thanks. So no other adaptor, cords, etc? Just the gauge and plug in?

Thanks for all the help - ordered!

or just spend $20 on a obdII Bluetooth adapter and buy the Torque app for your phone. does more I believe and resets and diagnoses CEL

They also work on 95's as they were partially OBD 2 compliant, you just don't get some of the sensors reporting, but more than enough to keep an eye on things...

I don't think that the OBD II in a '95 is any different than a '96 or '97. All of the normal gauge functions of a ScanGauge II work fine with mine. The X-Gauge feature also worked well to add gauges for O2 sensor voltage.

Correct, the OBD2 works the same, '95, '96 and '97.

The only thing wrong with the regular Ultragauge are the things our truck doesn't have sensors for. The UG would display more info if the 80 would supply it.
It has been very useful however knowing what the actual and exact coolant temps were when I was trying to locate a coolant leak and had to use the truck every day without overheating it. It was then that I moved the engine temp readout to the main page and left it there even after fixing the cooling system.

I seem to remember that the 95's have 36 or so items that it can read while the 96+ is more like 50+...

I could be wrong as I only have a 95 (and 93 but that's not help)...

Anywhoo, I really like the Ultragauge and would recommend it to everyone, I think I paid like $10 for mine during a special 5 or 6 years ago...

I'll take two of them at this price please! I think they're more like 70 bucks nowadays. Well worth the cost, IMHO.

Yeah, there was a special when they first came out, it was like $10 then it went to $20, then $30 and so on...

I'd pay $100 easy for one...

I really like my Ultragauge. I prefer the larger screen vs the Scangauge. It makes it much easier to read at a glance and it displays six different data points at once rather that 3(I think) that the scan gauge does. Only thing I wish it had a trans temp. Other than that I think it's fanatastic and for the price it's hard to beat.

Simple plug and play. You will want to do some calibration to get it set up correctly for larger tires and for the fuel economy stuff, but other than that it's a 30 second install.

Mine is mounted to the steering column in front of the stock gauges. In this location is does block the speedo from 0-15 mph and the tachmeter above 5000rpm, as well as the lower section of the transmission position but I don't need to see any of that. I like this location because it's a place I'm looking anyway and is a quick read so I'm not searching for it. I have it exopied to a GoPro mount so I can unclip it if I need to.

Little harder to see in this photo but it's there behind the steering wheel.

Box Rocket - went with you mounting set up. Looks great, love having it acessible but not in the way.

Still getting familiar with Gauge but really liking it. I am struggling with the MPH correction numbers. If I am running 33s, anyone have an idea of what my correction would be? 1.1? Thanks!
