I want to get back to something more raw with a pure driving experience. I love my bimmer and it is an awesome car but it too heavey and overly plush. But this is still a few years down the road yet. Mary E gets a new car first.

I like! Technology has come a long way in 15 yrs... I'd have a hell of a time keeping up on the straights for sure... but I'd try :flipoff2:

best part of the elise is the toyota celica sourced engine........ finally a reliable british sports car and 30mpg :cheers:

how does the vette get better MPG with that huge V8?? Plus I like Colin Chapman's Philosphy of "add lightness" and "Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere"

Elise's are bare bones and raw..... like no carpet, radio, a/c, power steering, etc. and thats what I want.

And I have to say I personally hate vettes....don't care for the looks or the mentallity it represents. A huge motor in a heavy car that can't handle for nothing but runs like stink. I have to say though the recent models really have improved in the handling department but to me they will always be Americas redneck sports car............ so thanks but no thanks I'll stick to my european sports car with my nose turned up in the air;p

2010 corvette 16/26mpg impressive for a big V8 but the elise wins big where it counts in the city :cheers:

Oh, I thought you were going to wear big boy pants and get the SC, then yeah the Elise is better on mileage but a lot slower. And the new C6 handles great.

I didn't know 3100# was considered heavy in a sports car these days. Especially when you have 400hp at your disposal.:rolleyes:

But you are right about the redneck stigma, my wife would never let me own a Vette because of that, but would go for just about any other sports car. Guess you gotta for what the ladies like.

I would put on my big boy pants, as mentioned in the early post, and get the SC..... as those are the are the MPG numbers for the SC the base elise had mpgs pushing the mid-30's

tipping the scales at 2000lbs it is over a third lighter than the vetter, not to mention being a perfectly balanced mid-engine car

all this is a mute point though as I said I detest vettes and have a great admiration for Lotus's approach to car building. Comparing these two to me isn't really "apples to apples" as their design philosphys are so different. To each their own but I am sticking to light and nimble..... I've done the big V8 and lots of horse power with the bimmer I have now

Not to :deadhorse: but I am not sure where you got your mpg figures from. Every thing I see for the 10' and 11' Elise SC gets 26 mpg hwy. And the non-SC gets 27 mpg.:meh:

JP have you test driven an Elise yet? I'm not sure your big flip-floppy, goofy feet would fit into that go-cart.

if you really want a fun car that will turn heads without spending much money invest in a 95 Civic CX Hatch.

B seires engines will easily handle 600 WHP when sleeved and the trannys do just as well. Add in the fact that the car weighs less than 2200lbs and you've got a great HP/weight ratio. 20mpg city won't be hard if you can resist laying into the skinny pedal.


For less than 10 grand you can have an 11 second car that will eat Vettes and those high priced beetles anywhere on the street. That is if you can do the work yourself.

The only draw back to the FWD car is the lack of perfomance in the twisties. They do well if you put the money into suspension, H-frame brace and strut tower braces but you can only do so much.

Suregon genreal has found that smoking V8's is not bad for your health
