To remove it?? If so you don't need a tool, get 3 or 4 pieces of bread and pack them into the hole. Use a 3/8 socket extension and just slowly/lightly tap the bread in there. Keep adding bread(should only take 3 or 4 pieces) and the bearing will pop right out....then you just pull out the wad of bread and you're done. Don't use grease, makes a hell of a mess and you have to clean the grease out when you get the bearing out. Have done the bread trick many times and it's so easy, don't worry your truck isn't gluten intolerant!

This is what chuck did with mine. Worked like a charm.

So all of these threads, transfer case articles, etc that people say "pulling the needle bearing in the end of the output shaft" is one of the hardest parts, I am going to whip it with a couple slices of whole wheat?

I don't doubt you, just seems ironic with all the heartache that is written about it that Natures Own is the SST.

Priceless.

Yes it is, natures own is your friend! If you can find Gabe's build thread from many moons ago I think we took some pictures of the process.

So now I have the next question and after the bread answer I can hardly wait to hear the solution! I don't have a transmission jack, but I have some 8x8's and other scraps of wood to make a cribbing system to lower the case and transmission. We do it at work for auto extracation and it would seem (but maybe ill-advised) that it would work in this situation. It would be slow but better than using my floor jack as a transmission jack substitute.

What say you gurus?

Not sure if this will work for the weight of a tcase, but I've used one of those rectangular 1.75Gal water jugs (Crystal Springs, Deer Park, etc.) on my diffs. Empty it of the water and close off the valve. It was durable enough to catch my 3rd member last time I pulled it. I've also used cardboard boxes that I had on hand. Stuffed small boxes inside to slow the crushing down. Tape up outer box for structural rigidity. Use large pieces of cardboard as a mat to slide the tcase out from under the vehicle easier.

What year is the 60? And does it have the spacer? Are you planning on bringing it down as one unit or are you going to separate the tcase before you drop it to make it lighter? If you can get by Marshall's he's got an old trans jack that you could probably borrow....and the box idea from Rick sounds like it would work. Of course my luck would be I'd too over build it and the stupid boxes wouldn't crush. But it'll definitely save your fingers and your case.

Yes it has a spacer,I thought about separating them to make it easier. I want to pull the transmission also, I have a leaking input on the trans and my throw out bearing is making noise.

Thinking about getting a gokart for the kids/me. :) Anyone have one they want to get rid of or know of one? You know me I'm looking for cheap/ possibly trade?

Well, got another one....134k on her...
Someone decided it was a good idea to remove the lower steering arm, stripped the stud holes in the knuckle, retapped them, installed bolts...figured it was dangerous and sold it to me... She has some other issues, but nothing too bad. Notelectric seats, no abs, no axle lockers...door locks not working, rear drivers window off track, broken tail light due to accident, small front bumper dents, torn intake hose, lots of new hoses, brakes are new, broken running board, drivers door does not close right, missing a few trim pieces...some other minor issues...
