1st day back at work in 8 days. Going to be a long night.

Been a pretty crappy 48 hours. Something broke in my front axle on the way home from my in laws house yesterday (I'm hoping it's the front DS, but I doubt it), then I arrived home to a shattered back door. Someone tried to kick it in and break in. They didn't get in though, thankfully. Police came out to file a report and went around to talk to a couple people in the neighborhood.

Insurance deductible is way over what a new door will cost me, so I need to buy that this week and get it installed myself. Then I need to fix my truck, all while some nice medical bills are rolling in. This has turned out to be a very expensive year for us.

Teddy,
I hate to hear about the attempted break-in. It's amazing how many times I have heard the same think recently. People attempting break ins during the broad daylight.
I'm glad it wasn't worse but it still sucks. I hate a thief! (I also hope your truck is a simple fix)

Pulled the front DS and its still vibrating really bad. I'm now thinking it's a spark or wiring issue, but everything looks fine. I've checked every system I can think of.

Talked to Marshall and told him I'm leaving it with him Saturday if I can't figure it out this week. I hate having a mechanical issue and not being able to figure it out.

Rear driveshaft? Engine mount?

Rear driveshaft is fine. All new ujoints and rear wheel bearings less than a year ago. Motor mounts look OK and so does the trans mount. I have new ones in the garage in case. This just started all of a sudden on the interstate after 4 hours of driving.

Throw a wheel weight or a belt in your tire? Shots in the dark here.

Well, I think you may be on to something. After driving all the way to work this morning with the front driveshaft pulled, I think my noises and grumbling are coming from behind the driver seat.

Engine is running fine and idling fine. I don't have time to mess with it again this week is the bad thing.

Yeah check out the wheel balance, had this happen a few times and it's always been a balancing issue. One way to kind of test it is put the front tires on the rear and vice versa. You'll probably still get vibrations but it'll be at a different speed or it will feel different.

Update! I decided to pull the rear DS today for the hell of it and it turns out the 6 month old u joints were smoked! Put the front DS back in, locked the center diff, running and driving like the Blue Whale I know and love again.

So, I am running around in front wheel drive until I get new u joints put in the rear. I knew I was over thinking everything, but oh well. Now time to focus on the parts swap and beer!

I had to do the same thing in our 4Runner last summer. The cv joint gave out on the rear DS. It was crazy the noises it made.

Did you rebuild it yourself before?

No, I had a driveline shop do it. I paid them to put Toyota Ujoints in and it looks like they used generic on it. But, this time, I'm going to buy the Mr. T joints myself and take them and the DS to Cline and have them install then new joints and rebalance the DS. It has a couple good bangs in it.

I'm really not surprised this was my issue. I've wheeled that truck pretty hard the past year. I think they must have been on their last leg and the long trip at highway speeds finally did them in.

I went the JY route. Cline couldn't do anything over the phone and I'm too far to make multiple trips. I have heard good things about their work. FWD was definitely interesting in a lifted suv.

Yeah, I didn't get over 45 on my test drive and my truck is real tall. Ride to work should be fun tomorrow:hillbilly:.
