anyone have links to land cruisers traveling across africa, getting stuck and getting the help of locals, incredible rutted roads with 8' high side walls? I am not sure how to describe the roads..they are so bad..

There was an article in Toyota Trails a couple years ago that was told from a young couple doing exactly what you describe.

The Alamo restaurant in pigeon forge is over rated.

Meh good deals can be had on clothing. Good restaurants as well. Closer than the beach as well.

It just reminds me of a beach town without the beach, all tourist centered.
It's different for you Gabe, you have kids to keep entertained. Our kid just turned 23, she is self entertaining. :)

The whole Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg area is ridiculous. I'd much rather go over to the Townsend side and hang out there, still quiet and relaxing.

I'm probably not the best person to go into great detail, but it is west of Gatlinburg, still located just on the edge of the park. It is TINY compared to the madness of PF and GB. I'm not even sure if they have any major restaurants or even what the hotels situation looks like, I just know it is quiet, situated right along the Little River and they have managed to keep it that way.

Here is the wiki page I found, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Townsend,_Tennessee

I will also ask my in-laws who live in Knoxville for a little more info for you.

Edit: We did camp at the Townsend KOA many years ago when I was in my teens. It was a nice little place, quiet and they even have a pretty nice pool for campers. Thinking back, if you are looking for the mountains, but like old-school it is a cool little place. At least the last time I was thru a year or so ago, then it is a great little spot.

Just reserved a space at paris mountain for the annual. Who else is going? Looked like they had a good bit of vacancies but I would not wait too long. As soon as it starts cooling off they will start filling up.

@the gimpey one , I could be out of the loop but the 2015 calendar lists Table Rock, not Paris Mountain as the annual. ????

Yeah apparently the location has not been finalized. Waiting on decision from the powers that be...

Stopped at the bushes baked beans plant. Very interesting video of the plant. Couple old cars in the parking lot as well.

Calling this week, but as of now, we are having the annual at Table Rock.

Camping at Allan's or at the park? Need to know so us with 4 kids can plan. @gimpy

Finally got this bastard out. Probably not gonna attempt to remove the broken stud myself, hardly anything there to work with.

Any good machine shops near Greenville that would tackle this? Might have them plane both manifolds too.

Or should I just weld a plug in and call it done?

Daniel, you can get that stud out. Soak it in PB blaster every day for a week or so, then heat it up until it's glowing. Then, vice grips and more PB. It'll come out. I'm out of town this weekend, but can help next week if you can wait.
