I really like this debate thats going on. But just throw it out their I have a mini that I use as my dd. so when I bring the 60 up here it will more or less be trail driven. So on that note would a 40 be more capable?

You are opening up a whole new can of worms there :hillbilly: both vehicles are highly capable and there are situations where either one will be more suitable than the other. Biggest difference is wheel base, and that is really a coin toss as I have been in many situations where a swb is an advantage and others where the lwb was an advantage........ but if I had to personally choose only one to offroad forever I'd go with the 40 mainly because it is more compact and maneuverable and that is a plus for the tight trails we have on the east coast.

either way though you can't go wrong

Welcome to the club.

On another note I signed a lease today for a shop. 1200 sqft with 4 bays. It's not much but it's gated and in a secure area about 2 miles from the house. So things will be picking up in the next month.

Yeah!!!!!and you can commute on a bicycle too. It also doesn't have a heater. ;)

Im looking for a new DD anyone have experience with a T100? Looks like same drivetrain as our 4runner, suspension similar to my old '89 pickup and space for 6 people in a pinch with the ext cab. And it still gets decent MPG.

Other options are ext cab or dc tacoma, but they are $. Would go back to the 89-95 ext cab too but cant see paying what a Taco should cost for one.
1st gen 4runner, but many are worn out or rusty.

Marshal or anyone else want to do a 3vz-e t 5vz-fe swap for me? I've seen a bunch with the 3vz-e with blown HG cheap.

I'm indecisive, yet picky oh yeah throw in cheap too. ;) What a combination. :bounce:

Budget - hope to be around $4K but can go up to 5 possibly 6 for something really nice. The cheaper the better, gives me $ for extras, trips, and other stuff.

My commute is ~75 miles round trip each day, but I also go out to our 7 county region on a regular basis for work, so it needs to be dependable.

Ditch the 40 and the 60 and buy a locked 80. While Jp would like for you to believe we go on tight trails the truth of it is we haven't been on any tight trails since Tellico closed. That was 3 years ago.

T-100 I had two, one 4X4 the other two wheel drive don't remember the engine sizes but both were dogs poor gas mileage and no power when compared to the tacoma's and 4 runners heck even the 60 seem's quicker than either t-100. Just my 2 cents worth. Also the only new toyota's that ever spent much time in the shop. Tundra's I have no experence but I won't own a T-100 with the stock engines ever again. Sad to say but the only Toyota I don't like .....NOW!:D

I think Michael at ACC Toyota has a T100. Might want to check with him.

Word.
I love my FJ Cruiser Bonnie. She's a great wheeler and a great travel SUV and as economical I'm sure as any LC for a DD.
But knowing what I know now if I could start over I would buy a good locked 80, lift and slider it, and be happy. I've seen 80s that could go where I couldn't and were daily drivers for guys whose jobs involved impressing clients so there you go.
A MINI (I presume you meant the beemer mini) is very cool and I'd even travel in it but I don't think it would work for us for travel camping. I have an old Mustang ragtop but I don't take it for extensive traveling.
Bottom line there just ain't that much wheeling around there any more and to me dedicating capital property to it doesn't make sense any more.

last place we went was full of tight trails.... does gulches ring a bell?? Just ask my fender flares:hillbilly:

plus I love my 80 to death but it lacks the soul of a 40:beer:

you also wheel like my grandma.....

Yes I do. I don't like breaking anything and having to ask my friends to help. Especially when I knew I would break a pinion on that hill.

The enjoyment for me is getting there without breaking. And having a good time with friends and family.

Maybe that's why Chuck doesn't wheel. He knows he is going to break even before we get to the trail. Hmmmm

Erly ones for sure were dogs, '95 was first year for the 3.4 and x-cab. Before that it was the 3.0 and I think 22re, I cannot image that large a vehicle.

I'll try to email or call them, my biggest thing is finding a deal. That will determine much of what I end up with.

Thanks, different truck completely. Found a '89 ext cab pickup like my old one but its a v6. For the price I think I am going to check it out.

I cannot believe how much used car prices have gone up in the last 12 months, its unreal.
