I worked there the last 2 years, it is better than when I was younger, but Cataloochie is still better IMHO. Wolf has a mediocre descent and is more icy due to it's southeast face. I was going to go back this year, but my schedule wouldn't allow it...

I am gonna pick up an accessory heater to mount in the back of the dent. Do you guys think a 300w ceramic heater would be enough? They can be had for about $50 or so with shipping on ebay. Once i replace the thermostat and seal in the front i think the heater up front should work. My rear heater currently is being bypassed. I hope to get in some snow while off work during the holidays but heat is kinda a must.

Not sure of any ceramic heater that would be sufficient short of a propane powered one. But I don't think that would be a good idea. Even though Mr. Heater makes some excellent heat buddies that have low O2 shutoffs and are safe inside. Just not sure how safe next to a gas tank under the rear seat.

I have a small 'cool to the touch' heater that I use when camping at I have an electrical hook up. Works nice in the back of the Pig - BUT - plugging something in overnight will need one heck of an inverter and will probably kill your battery.

And I still can't bring myself to use a gas powered heater in a tent.

I've used one of these in our tent before. I use it with a 10lb LP tank (and leave the tank outside the tent). It works pretty darn good and we didn't wake up dead.

If you pick one up now it will run you about $90-100, but if you buy one at the end of the season you can get them for about $60-70 (might try CL or Ebay too).

IIRC Wal-Mart had them about a month ago for around $70-80.

That's the big buddy. I've not seen one cheaper than 100. The regular Mr buddy I think can be had for less.

Northern tool has both, and are having some pretty good internet sales lately... I contemplated purchasing one before the end of the year...

I do not plan on using it for camping. I want something that can generate some heat for the kiddos in the back. The front heater will be working also i just do not think that is enough to go all the way to the 3rd row seat i installed. It probably would not have to generate that much heat.

If i ever get to camp in the dent i would use something like the propane setup u guys showed me though. The units i am looking at wire up directly to the battery unless i can somehow hook it up to a switch. I just would have to remember to cut the sucker off when not in use.

This is what i am thinking about trying.

Don't waste your money, just heat up the car ahead of time. I believe I would spend my time and money fixing the lines to the rear heater. You could probably find a set of used lines on here from somewhere and replace them in a warm afternoon. Like this weekend.:)

The Entire Blue Ridge Parkway road trip

So, sometime in the new year Cat and I are going to drive up to VA to visit her family (Charlottesville-Richmond-Newport News). We are also going to rent a small trailer and haul back some of her old stuff from her parents house. We may go as early as January (which would kill the option to attend MLK) or go later in the season when its not so bitter cold. This got me thinking...could we drive the entire BRP and make a true road trip of it?

Let me just say Google Maps does not agree that this is the best way to get to Waynesboro, VA. I wish there was an easier way to do this with Google, a la "Cherokee to Waynesboro via Blue Ridge Parkway", but there ain't. So creating this map required creating a lot of destinations along the way and a few "drag route here" modifications. These destinations are completely random and don't signify any landmark or POI.

The Entire Blue Ridge Parkway 640 miles from Atlanta to Waynesboro.

So my question is, when does it thaw out enough that we won't have to worry about closures along the route?

if you need the rear heater lines I have a set from my FJ62 in good shape.........

Usually the BRP opens back up in late March early April depending on weather conditions up high.

Yeah i need them. How much? My other problem is that i don't think that it works when u turn it on. Guess i should try that first.

definately make sure that the fan is turning on when you turn the heater up front on.

I have a functioning rear heater as well..... if you need that too.

I'd take $60 bucks for both of them(lines and heater)

sold. Jeremy, I still have the heater unit that came with my 60. If it does not need to be replaced i will happily get with you about the one i get from clemsoncruiser. gabe
