Now Tarvis...
We shall ride again soon. Or else I’ll have to mention these parts of yours to the one that lets you borrow the 100. :)

A new name is born. Thanks Curt!!

Anyone replaced a thermostat in a 2000 UZJ? How much coolant is coming out or has to be drained? My new place has a very limited work area and trying to decide if I do it myself or pay someone. I want to tackle it myself so she can have her 100 back sooner.

Getting a gurgling sound from the dash and the temp gauge rising. Everything I read on the 100 forum points to the thermostat. Going to replace that first. No leaks under the lid (that is what my daughter is calling the hood). ;<)

Thank you for any insights.

EDITED: Almost nothing comes out if I remember correctly - EDITED : I think I did drain some into a bucket by way of the radiator drain...but it's not much, maybe a cup or two? If I did have to drain it - I can't remember, as it was leaking so I can't remember if I had to drain or if the antifreeze in the bucket was from the leak - I put a rag underneath the housing and the rag soaked up almost all of it....ymmv - but my radiator was full when I did it. Grab an extra gasket in case the old one is nicked - I replaced mine since the housing was leaking - I probably have the t-stat and gasket (both were good) and can check if I still have them and send them off to you - though the t-stat was I think a 160°F or 165°F due to the SC.....

Thank you. I am taking it to Jay at Renaissance. Doing a full coolant test and testing the fan clutch.

Never updated here, threw new poly bushings in the front suspension on the blue 40, made a huge difference. Less noise, and more importantly it now turns right AND left. The axle was so off centered before it was all out of whack. It’s still 1/2” off center because I think the frame isn’t straight from years of wheeling and a tweaked drivers front leaf spring. But good enough for me. Hopefully the last money spent on leaf springs until I link it!

This past weekend the Clemson Off-road Club went to Beasley Knob, it was a slop fest even after it had supposedly not rained there in almost two weeks. I had a small altercation with a clay wall, may or may not have managed to put the full weight of the 40 into the wall on the drivers fender. The fender is tube and beefy, but poorly tied in to the frame. So the fender just pushed back into the tub. Got it straightened up pretty well Monday though! Next step is more frame tie ins, also going to add a tie in across the engine fender to fender.

Nathan’s 100?
Hope he’s got a good job to pay for gas.
The boys have mentioned taking Jolene over and I laugh that the fuel bill will keep them from ever driving anywhere.

Well the 100 gets better gas mileage than any of these other dinosaurs around here! Nathan wants to work, but I have discouraged him from getting a job until he turns 16. I don’t want to have to take him to work and pick him up. Things will change for young Nathan on his birthday on November 1st.

Sometimes helps to look at the opposite side, I am still trying to convince my 25 year old to get a job!

We have a 28 year old like that. Takes 30 days to form a habit, many have had over a year off with great pay between states and the Fed. That is a habit that is hard to kick, even when the unemployment checks stopped. Irony, our daughter worked for a company that collected student debt for the Fed.

It was a small coolant leak. Jay was amazed because it did not over heat and the radiator was almost empty.

I'm planning on rebuilding the LX470 transmission Thanksgiving weekend, assuming the parts show up. Interested onlookers are welcome to stop by. There will be much cleaning to do...

We hire a bunch of seasonal staff for Cane Creek if he has any desire to work at the park next year.

This exact job is next on my list for my truck in the coming weeks. Need to get the upper and lower ball joints on both sides replaced as well as address a leaky boot on the passenger side of the steering rack. Hoping it's not needing a new rack entirely...

What'd you use to press the ball joints out? I've heard mixed reviews about off the shelf ball joint presses working on these.

Rented the big 26 pc. press set from Advance Auto. Worked fine with a few minor work arounds. Work-around #1: remove the boot from the new lower BJ’s before you press them in and re-install the boots once they are in. Work around #2: use a cut-off wheel to cut the shaft off the old upper BJs before you press them out. Do those things and the tool works perfectly. I got all my parts from Kurt at CruiserTEQ. Seiko 555 BJ’s and outer tie rod ends.

Thanks! I have those exact same items in my cart at CruiserTEQ right now so I'll go ahead and order them. Glad to hear the Advance Auto kit worked for removal and install
