I have Troopy fever and this is not helping, Ian. Not helping at all.

Exquisite build as always.

Excited to see if factory VDJ78 mounts are applicable in the Troopy like I used for my double cab 79- are you going to build from scratch or try to adapt factory mount points?

I just bought a 2024 body from the same guys you bought yours from. They told me to check out your build. I have a few questions for you! What’s a good way to get in contact?

Send me a message here or an email. If you flip your phone sideways (if you're on a phone) you will see my contact info.

Cheers

We just got the front inner fenders the other day.

Hey Galen, we are using current production 78-series frame side body mounts. They will be cut up and modified to suit the 80-series chassis.

The rolling chassis is prepped now, everything cut off we don’t want or plan to move. Approximate ride height set, chassis stretch pretty well done, still a crossmember to add.

Front inner fenders got a quick & dirty cut for shock tower clearance. That’s our mock up trans/tcase in the background.

Rear axle located in rear wheel wells center-ed, pinch weld trimmed for 80-series rear coil buckets and body to frame height.

Just about ready to rock n’ roll building all twelve body mounts. We will also be locating engine/trans mounts during this process.

Cheers

Couple more pics from the other day.

Centering rear axle to body.

Front clip on for first time, before inner fenders or core support though.

Random internet picture I grabbed a week or two ago for inspiration, for everyone involved! 🤣

Now picture it with a custom front bumper, sliders and a pop-top! That’s the direction we are headed! 😋

Beautiful work, Ian.

Using my engine & trans for mock up, this we do before building body mounts.

yep....following!
.
If you didn't need the engine/drivetrain/everything from that clean 80 except the frame, why not let someone DD that nice 80 and just get a frame? Those are readily available.

Is there a secret to getting all the thousands of bolts/trim/interior/HVAC components from Toyota for an entire car, or do you have to piece it all together 1 by 1? That would be super inefficient and expensive it seems.

One by one, but there are great EPC diagrams. At least once you've done it, if you were smart you made a nice spreadsheet with PNs and subsequent builds are some what less time consuming for parts procurement. It is inefficient and expensive, and that's why these builds are so amazing; among other things.

Figured....didn't know if there was a 'kit' you could buy for the modern variants

Seems kinda silly to go through all that cost, effort and time when there are otherm more complete, bones to build from...you know if the engine and trans are gonna be swapped anyways. Quicker time to build means more time to explore the countryside!

but its cool to see a modern 70 stateside!
