now, you regulars that enjoy my builds, before you ask "where did all the girlie pics go?"
https://forum.ih8mud.com/ih8mud-help-...ser-guide.html
35% RULE! (Yes, this warrants it's own link!) Simply put, kids frequent the site and adults may have their young children on their lap. Avatars must be FAMILY SAFE, pics in your profile must also be FAMILY SAFE, pics in the Tech sections musts be FAMILY SAFE and all photos posted in Chat or sChat must follow the 35% rule. Not sure what it is? Search a bit, or push the limits....if you get banned, then you'll know the line! (And yes...I set the line, may move it on a whim, and it's based on what I would allow my 5-year-old niece to see...try me...there isn't much tolerance on this one...)

in other words ... post safe.

Wayne,
Your build threads contained
  • Beautiful Cruisers
  • Builds centered on craftmanship and innovation
  • Selective viewings of lovely ladies

An amazing combination with all elements meshing together and complementing one another. I have complete confidence that your build stories will continue to be great without the third element, but it is ashamed to see anything good be lost.

thanks for the words of support.
to be honest, when i go back through the threads these last few months i have been questioning why i was posting them up. at first it was fun, icing on the cake so to speak but when i sent people to the thread to check out my quality i had to also include a warning.
if i have to warn then why were they there.
Woody just pushed me off the fence in the direction i was already leaning towards.

i guess i will have to concentrate the pics to the cheerleader thread instead.

Crushers,

I know this build is on hold, but if I could ask you a question about the roof rack, you built for it.

How do you plan to secure it, in the back, to the roof gutter. I would like to semi copy your design, for mine, but can't see how the back ties down.

I hope you can get back on this one, truly enjoy reading and learning.

Thank You, Ron

i am not really sure what you are asking?
the rack is secured to the gutter in 8 places. at the back of the rack there is the 3/8" aluminum piece that bolts to each of the C channels to give the whole unit strength across the back.

Did I miss how the 3/8ths supports are bolted to the rain gutter. My rack mounts are a two piece system, which clamps down on the gutter, via a nut and bolt. I never seen what you came up with.

Thanks, Ron

is the front dash above torn apart or is it used in this condition?

at that point in time I had removed the entire dash structure to build (precisely on the bench) a top dash extension for all the crap you can see in the photo, as well as to remove/clean/refoam all the vents and vent trap doors. i haven't yet done the finishing off with cover plates, but it will all have a factory look when finished.

i don't mean to hijack, i hope to get around to doing a build thread eventually but i'm pushed for time until i finish!

Hello All,

Do any of you know what the factory towed weight limit is for a (in this case) '92 Troopie (with 1HZ and H55F, just like the one on this build) is, please?
Thank you!

Thank you, i love the quick feedback. Hopefully i can dig up an Ozzie owner's manual, what a pain to find the right site online (only 8 billion results to go through!)

The caravan industry guide also shows a manufacturer spec of 2500kg. It also shows the official increase from 2500kg to 3500kg happened around 96, which I believe coincides with the brake upgrade on the 80s. See pages 101/102:
http://ozhitch.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/towingmassguidenov2007.pdf

That said, there are some other speculations that some models had a rating at 3500kg, with this suggestion:
I believe some troopies had their tow ratings upgraded by Toyota, well after they were built.
Taken from http://caravanersforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15315

Since you've taken so long to finish this project, I can't remember if it started out as an Australian vehicle. If so, do you have a VIN that we could provide to Toyota Australia to see if they have the answers?

i don't care what the book says, a truck that weighs 7500 lbs is maxing out the brake system. unless the trailer has its own brakes i would not recommend over 1500 lbs.

your truck, do as you wish.

unless the trailer has its own brakes i would not recommend over 1500 lbs..

That's about right, the limit here for an unbraked trailer is 750kg. The 2500/3500kg limits we are discussing are manufacturer ratings for braked trailers. Additionally, for trailers over 2000kg, the brakes on the trailer must be 'breakaway' type, such that they automatically apply in case of disconnection from the tow vehicle.

at the same time, with this particular truck, i would not recommend over 1500 lbs, period.
i am sure there are those that are willing to pull more but, in my experience, it would be taxing the 1HZ to be moving over the 9000 lbs combined weight at 110 k/h and especially in areas like BC where the hills are kms long both up and down.

just my recommendation. the owner will end up doing what he wants to do.

WOW!!!!
Simply amazing build mate!!!!

Took me 3 days to actually read the whole thread and needless to say that i was impressed and gave me ALOT of inspiration for my Troopy....especially the storage ideas

Keep up the phenomenal work and let us know the status/update of the build :)

thanks for the compliment.
i am hoping to be back on the troopie in Nov.
cheers
