Thanks, I'm just winging it right now... I've drawn 9 sketches and they have all changed. I cut three sets of wings today before liking what is on there now.

Right now I can lift up on the end and the wing only moves about an 1/8".. But, I still have the ends, internal bracing and lower lip to go so it should be pretty darn solid when finished. I'll be running an internal wing tube as well. This tube will go from the frame plate bracket to the inner wing gusset. This will keep the wing from caving in during impact and also give vertical and horizontal strength as well.

I'm guessing the base bumper will come in around 105-125# All 3/16" shell and internal bracing, 1/2" frame brackets and 1/4" frame and winch plates.

Have you decided whether to do some sort of fog light accommodation?

For those that have inquired about bolts.

My insurance company is going to allow me to sell the bolts for the tow points (its a weird thing, don't ask...) I can't sell them with the tow points as a kit, but nothing to stop me from selling them as a "general" option item....

I just got word today and ordered the bolts. M12 x 1.25 x 40mm grade 10.9 with flanged head. Won't be here for another week, but will be an option in the very near future.

Not at all on winching. The frame plates are 1/2" plate attached to the 3/16" front shell and 1/4" winch plate that will be tied to the 1/2" frame plates. It'd take more than a 12.5 to move this bumper.

As far as line cutting you'd have to be at a pretty hard down angle. I made the shell fairlead opening to have a 1/2" buffer to the fairlead to soften all angles as well.

Factor55 makes a fairlead that is 1.5" thick, with not only gentler exit curves made especially for sharper angles, but also a coating that is impervious to rock grit that embeds in synthetic ropes. It is available in just one color (gunmetal grey) because of the nature of the coating.

I'm considering it for my own upcoming winch install. Here it is compared with their standard thickness FL:

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Factor 55 introduces a new line of Aluminum Hawse Fairleads. The 1.0 and 1.5 fairleads are CNC machined from 1 and 1.5 inch thick USA 6000 series aluminum bar. The industry standard fairlead thickness is .75 inches thick.

The thicker aluminum bar results in a larger outer fillet radius for the synthetic rope to slide against. This results in less stress on the rope fibers during high angular pulls, increasing the life of your synthetic rope. The 1.0 and 1.5 fairleads are the industry’s first Hawse fairleads compatible with larger ½ inch diameter rope tube thimbles.

The rope slot height opening is taller to allow the larger ½” tube thimbles to pass through. There is also a machined outer corner chamfer to reduce rope stress for those than plan on using the winch as a front suspension “suck down” device. These fairleads come in a durable MIL-A-8625F TYPE III gun metal gray hard anodized finish with a laser engraved logo.

What is the best surface finish for Hawse aluminum fairleads? Without a doubt it is a Type III hard anodized coating. Not cosmetic Type II anodized finishes, not powder coated, and not raw or polished aluminum. Why? Because a hard coating can resist the abrasion damage from a dirty/gritty synthetic winch rope rubbing across it. Especially during extreme side pulls where rope fiber stresses are extremely high. A Mil-A-8625 Type III hard anodized finish leaves a .002” thick Al2O3 ceramic coating that is in the top 5 hardest materials known to mankind (See chart under Corundum/Sapphire). Not too far away from diamond hardness actually. Another valuable material property from hard anodized coatings are the low coefficients of friction. Low friction = lower rope heat. Only drawback? Hard anodizing is not offered in typical bright and fancy anodized colors. All Factor 55 fairleads only come in Mil-A-8625 hard gray finishes. Not fancy, but it is the proper finish to extend the life of your synthetic rope.
