Rant of the day/week - The annoying constant backup beep of heavy equipment that you have to listen to for the day and many days to follow. I don't think it even keeps anyone safe or that they pay attention to the reverse beep at worksites - but the sound of it drives me insane.............

The house next door started demo/construction over 4 weeks ago. Unless it's raining, the beeping trucks start at 7:15. The hammering starts at 7:30. I now dream about beeping and hammering the way you might dream that your alarm clock is about to go off. Yesterday, my dream was that the lot became a shooting range AND a practice place for the world's worst snare drum player and it was screwing up the counting contest I was having at my house; nobody could get past eleventy-brown.
Picture this:
Home Depot... 3PM... I walk up to the 'PRO' Counter having not found any multimeters in the tool section. Ask the guy behind the counter where the multimeters are....
He had a long gray beard and glasses, and was at the pro counter... AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT A MULTIMETER WAS???

Next time ask for a single 9v battery holder with 2 tie downs. Let him look at you like an idiot until you walk away. Then bring a MM/DMM/DVM/etc to the counter and tell him you found one.
That crap happens often. After I find the item, I find the employee and show it to them, when they asked "where was it?", which is every time, I say "go look like I did".

Lowe's by me is kind of the same, except they seem to be perpetually reorganizing, so most of the employees don't trust it or just flat can't find stuff.
I just lost my ability to edit my old posts . . . is this new? Am I an idiot? Do I have to do something like buy a Silver Star thingy?

Clothing, foreign made clothing. Several years ago my wife and I went to a local store (Belk) with the intention of finding a white dress shirt for an upcoming event. The sales clerk was very polite and pointed out a selection on a shelf and then picked up one and handed it to me. I noticed it was quite rumpled and when I inspected it closer, I noticed on the tag where it was made and all but tossed it back to the clerk.
The clerk was very surprised and told me it was one of the better sellers. The tag said made in Vietnam, I served there for three deployments and I refuse to buy anything or wear anything made in that country. I left Vietnam 47 years ago and refuse to support that communist country in any shape, form or fashion.
To this day, the first thing I look for is where a piece of clothing is made.
If I sound petty or small minded, that is my problem, I lost good friends there.

I go back a lot, in my dreams and memories. When I was separated from active duty a 2nd Lt asked me if I would ever consider visiting as a tourist. Told him an emphatic NO!
it appears that more than 50% of the drivers on the road today are going no place in particular and do not care when they get there.
leaving huge gaps, accelerating slowly from stops lights/signs, signaling left and going right, literally 100% oblivious to the world around them.
When I am in the car at 5pm leaving work, it's not for fun. I have somewhere to be. I do not want to be in the car.
Also, cars parked on the side of the road and road cones are not going to jump out and hit your car, no need to slow down 50% and swerve around them.

Most of these drivers you describe, I call them sheep, will be better off with a car driving for them in the right lane. They will be able to look at that tiny little screen the entire time and be so excited to do so.
What about the cell phone drivers, they are just as bad or worst. Totally engaged in their conversation and not paying attention at all. However you are bad guy when you pass them or blow the horn for them move at a stop light that has been green for over 30 seconds (if I make it that long).

Thank God I walk across the street to work. I have not commuted to work in 15 plus years and I sure do not miss it. Fortunately, I live out in cow country so traffic only gets really weird when we head to Spartanburg or Charlotte on the interstates.
