@beno and @cruiserdan is there any kind of advanced notice issued by Toyota before parts are discontinued? Have you been able to figure out any logic to what parts are getting discontinued? For example, could parts that rarely sell be the ones that have been discontinued to date? And what about parts that are replaced reasonably often, say seals or the air intake hose? Do us die-hard LC guys need to start stock piling our personal stashes of consumable parts?

It's all based on sales and movement of part.

That then trickles back to bean counters both at Toyota USA, TMC in Japan and at the suppliers who manufacture these parts (Denso, Aisin, Aisan, Toyoda Gosei, Yokohama, Koyo, NOK, etc.).

Then they decide what to keep or what not to keep.

For example, you can get almost all of the weatherstripping for an FJ40 still. You can get almost 50% of the weatherstripping of the 60/62 series for the US market.

Other factors:

1. Number of iterations manufactured during a time period
2. Whether it was a world market vehicle (like the Land Cruiser)
3. Whether manufacture of parts for said vehicle range was a short run--think FJ62/3F-E--or a long run, think 70 series now at 30 years.
4. How long vehicle has been out of production.

Not considering the age of the vehicles and the original production numbers.

Two more bite the dust:

Another one bites the dust:

This one sucks for the 1993-1994 folks.

The heater hose that comes off of the heater by-pass pipe from the top of the thermostat housing and feed the pipe that runs along the PS side of the engine: 87245-60490.

Now discontinued.

Sorry if this was already covered but what parts should one stock up on now?

LOL. Just drive it.:grinpimp:

Two left in the US. Mine and a dealer in Mississippi.

I'd love to just see your warehouse and how many Land Cruiser parts you have. My guess is that it is more than all other Toyota dealers combined.

Find another one to park in the backyard. It hasn't paid for itself yet but it's at the ready when I need parts

Another one bites the dust:

81620-60091: FRONT LH (DRIVER) CLEARANCE/PARKING LAMP ASSY (whole assy with harness). The lens itself is still available (81621-60090).

What is available for steering wheels and shifter knobs? Grey visors, specifically the drivers side, that I painstakingly disassembled built up the phony retention hump by welding metal on it, just for it to start falling down all the time again, (what a piss poor visor design, seriously.)

Specifically, I have a 97, with grey factory leather interior. Shifter and steering wheel are badly worn/peeled. Are leather replacements left, and or what is the part number for the rubber/urethane equivalents.

Crazy but 100 series parts are being discontinued too. You would think Toyota would keep making them awhile longer since the last year of this model is only 8/9yrs old now.

Cheers

@RMP&O Is it things like fenders and trannys for the 100?

Didn't check those kind of parts but seat belts are NLA. Bummer as I wanted to replace my stained ones that are slow to retract. I got a list of NLA 100 parts but just the part numbers don't really tell you exactly what the parts are. I didn't inquire about leather interior bits like the steering wheel, seat covers, door panels and so forth. They do come up but until I place the parts inquiry you just never know.

Cheers

Thanks Beno! Blame it all on us bean counters! :flipoff2: We're the root of all evil , but we process your paycheck too! ;)
