Following your lead, @ClassyJalopy , I ordered the ignition rod assembly yesterday for roughly $145 shipped. I don't want to be caught without one. I may just go ahead and replace it since I will have the seats out to do some console work. Remember I'm almost like @flintknapper when it comes to "while you are in there" maintenance. Ha! :)

'Almost' my hind foot. You are my equal if not worse........... ;)

Honestly you don't even need to bother with the seats. There is plenty of room and it is much much easier to deal with when it's unbroken, in one piece.

I really should do this too. I have the part sitting in my shop. Just waiting for the day I get the call from Mrs. Flintknapper that her vehicle won't start.

Can't believe it hasn't happened already. She is SO rough on a vehicle. More times than not... parks with the steering wheel turned, jumps in and cranks that key over like you were twisting off a bottle cap.

Got a 300 mile trip coming up to see family on 4th of July weekend. Be my luck it would happen then.

If you discover any useful tips when you do yours....let us know. Kinda dreading this one.

Will do. I've got the seats out to start work.

Do it before you need, it's easier to pull out the rod when it's not broken. The youtube video I linked in a previous post here describes it great!

New seat skins/covers came in the mail. These are custom made for our trucks and are really hard wearing (I have used then on my other one too!l

The new steering wheel matches the rest of the interior almost perfectly!

Non AHC coils in the back with an AHC lift i'm assuming? I'm interested in this exact setup for my LX470!

Yes - they are standard LC springs in the back, and standard torsion bars I have yet to drive the truck for any decent number of miles, so I won't comment on how well they work. I was able to get the pressure readings in the acceptable range!

excellent. Will follow your progress. Good luck!

Replaced the battery terminals on primary battery. It's now much cleaner and better organized!

Very clean battery terminal set up! I've thought about changing out to that type of terminal but have been nervous about the material they are made of. Did you have any concern of stripping out the material when tightening down the cap screws?

These are actually threaded studs with with nuts - and no they seem plenty strong. I was not gentle with tightening them because I can easily return them on Amazon if they break!
The main body appears to be machined from a single piece of aluminum and the hardware appears stainless steel (not 100% sure on that one).

What do they think it is?

That alternator is awesome. Don't even know what I'd do with 270amps, that's a ton of power. Stick weld?
DC Power came through for me in a big way! They installed new bearings and replaced the voltage regulator with a new Toyota OEM version. Turned it around quickly (in about 2-3 business days) and are shipping it back via 2 day express

Had another productive weekend.
installed the rebuilt alternator, flushed engine coolant and power steering fluid, re-routed some of the lines to correct factory pattern, changed out the remaining vacuum lines etc. Started in first time in more that two weeks and she fired right up and ran pretty smooth.
Lower bolt for alternator was boogered when I took it out (at least it didn't break like my last truck!) - Re-tapped the 10m x 1.25 threads and put a new bolt it.
The other issue I encountered was the air control valve on the vane pump broke into two pieces - now I have to wait for the new one to arrive to before I can drive it much!

More stuff from this weekend:
  • replaced the air filter on this HDJ-100 version cyclone air box that PO installed.
  • pulled AC filter cover behind the glove box because the seal had failed and it was leaking water on the passenger footwell. Found a ton of mouse turds and other crap in there, cleaned it all up and put in a pair of charcoal activated filters in there. Used the Toyota FIPG to make new seal. Hopefully this will be the end of foul smell in the cabin.

Finally replaced the air control valve and went for a drive after almost 3 weeks. With new seat skins, new steering wheel all the touch points are way nicer! On top of that the new poly steering rack bushings have fixed the steering play altogether

I was hoping the the rear end jiggling side to side at the slightest provocation would be cured by the new rear control arms (well 3 of the 4 new control arms) but unfortunately that is as bad as ever. Since the AHC pressures are within range, I am wondering if the rear is over-spring by the LC springs instead of LX specific weaker springs!

I plan to replace the one remaining left rear UCLA, then disconnect the temp sensor for AHC pump and then check the pressures again.
Oh also, the shock cushions on all 4 corners are compressed and are probably useless - could they be the source of jiggling here? @katit did that help in your case?
