My CV Axles have been bleeding grease for a while, but recently, they started feeling a little rough on acceleration. So it was time to R&R the axles.
I chose not to take off the steering knuckle (that bugger is HEAVY) and just disconnect the upper control arm ball joint, steering knuckle arm (to disconnect the tie rod) and just pull the axle out.

I had a rebuilt CV sitting on the shelf so I was able to swap out the driver's side axle in about an hour. For the other side, I rebuilt the axle that came out of driver's side. I had previously bought an outboard joint assembly, which meant I had to deal with just the inboard joint. It is a fairly unpleasant job with grease getting everywhere - and not having a workbench or a vise makes it worse.

I decided to stop after rebuilding the axle - will probably tackle the passenger side in a day or so.

Replaced a few more rubber seals:
Front door opening trims
62311-60090-B0 TOYOTA US$45.50
62312-60090-B0 TOYOTA US$45.50

Hatch bottom seal:
68281-60020 TOYOTA B/DOOR PANEL W/STRIP US$80.81

Cowl seal.
53383-60031 Cowl Seal to Hood US$11.27

All parts were bought at Impex japan - I did get hit with the sense less madness of tariff but in the end the prices are still way lower that stateside.

Found clear evidence for water leak and a couple of surface rust spots when I removed the rear hatch seal. Sanded it down and coated with rust converter. Then covered the inside with BOESHIELD T-9 to future proof from any leaks/rust.

I do have the large rear hatch seal (that goes around the entire opening) at hand, But I ran out of time.

Not much to report lately. I did notice a small coolant leak recently, as suspected it is one of the plastic tees is seeping. A few months ago I had a shop replace the driver side exhaust header and the did mention they had to jack up the engine to get the header out. That would have stressed the plastic tees.
I have a pair of OEM metal tees that I will put on shortly.

Oh. also I replaced my trusty 17 X5 with a 24 X7. The X5 gave us trouble free 60k of motoring and I do miss it but we needed something bigger with a third row.

How much did they charge to replace it?

This is a guy I have known for far too long and have let him practice on my cars more than I care to admit. So now that he has an actual shop, I get good rates. I paid $300 for the job and got to hear how hard it was and how I am lucky he didn't charge me more!

B58 engine and the reliability ratings are the biggest motivation for my decision.
Lexus TX would be a more financially conservative choice but unfortunately, Lexus TX drives like a turd, looks like a turd and the interior is also, you guessed it, feels like a turd. $70k is a lot of coin to throw on a you know what.

Replaced the plastic heater Ts with Denso branded metal Ts. The slight leak I was seeing from the plastic Ts is now cured.

This is cool. I recently changed my Ts with new oem plastic ones but this makes me want to change them again to the same ones you got. How did you find these?
Not sure how. I got them from Impex Japan, also, didn't realize that I ordered an extra pair

How recently did you use IMPEX? I used them religiously before the tariffs but I’m scared to use them now reading some of the people’s stories on this forums.

I’m not able to find that part number at the US Toyota dealers unfortunately.

The last time I used Impex the whole schitt show of tariff had started. I was hit with a 15% tariff which was still worth it. I don't want to talk too much about tariffs because it quickly gets political and because there is a large number of citizens in this country who rather be impaled by tariffs than objectively discuss them.

If anyone wants to try metal tees I have a extra pair.

I would be interested in trying them. Just sent DM

Replaced the rear hatch gasket with new OEM
Changed front diff oil with Synthetic 75w90 Valvoline.
thats all.

Replaced all 8 spark plugs with new Denso ones. Old plugs all came out easily and had no indication of burning oil and running rich.
Also, found 2 of the coils had cracks in them so replaced them with new Denso coils as well. She continues to purr like a kitten and hop like a damned kangaroo!

Nearly exactly 60,000 miles since I replaced all the spark plugs and coils. Left the truck outside of the garage on a -20 F night and the next morning, was rewarded with a misfire! Code P0303.

Moved the coil from cylinder 3 to 1 and the code changd to P0301. Excellent!
Installed an "Import Direct" coil from local Oreilly and also replaced the cylinder 3 spark plug with a proper Denso. Misfires are all gone now!.

I will most likely replace all the other spark plugs in a few weeks (once the severe cold weather eases up).

This is what cylinder 3 plug looked like.
