New custom top intercooler setup. Need to get the scoop cut & fitted next. Looking forward to tuning with a turbo controller for added boost.

Intercooler looks good mate.

Just check how your catch can is plumbed in as its currently not part of the circuit, needs to flow through it not just teed off.

I was thinking the same thing. Won't it just be pulling fresh air through the catch can rather than venting through it?

heres another option for mounting here in US. Their kit is designed for 1FZ-FE but could probably be adapted. They even have a skid plate for it. I don't think you can maintain the factory winch mounting though since it looks like the core sits between the frame rails.

I don't know how air circulates in and around the engine bay when you are driving, but unless you get some kind of negative pressure in the engine bay that will pull air up from below or positive pressure to push air out, I don't see how this intercooler setup would be very effective. How do you get any air flow through it? I don't doubt that it will provide some cooling, but you won't have much air passing through the intercooler as you would with a front mount set up.

Oh, it's not my setup. I just came across it looking for US options. When I had an FZJ before I was considering their turbo setup. I am just looking for something in the US to keep cost down. All of the good stuff is AUS and a lot of those guys don't want to ship over here (or it is $$$$$ for freight). I like the cross country top mount stuff, but it's kind of double what I want to pay for what I think I'll get performance wise. We have a lot of hills around here and I am needing a little more umph for towing and just daily driving to be honest, but not trying to max out all of the tuning. Also I'm trying to keep the factory winch and it interferes with a lot of accessories that use the front frame mounts.

One would have to run some sort of fan and shrould to make it effective, taking up more space for a winch. However those with the ARB bar might be able to have some success with it.

Today's progress guys finally getting the hood / bonnet scoop fitted for the intercooler.

Unfortunately due to cutting the small opening the guys saw some cracks in the paint so with some existing imperfections they are spraying the whole lot now.

It's thankfully turning out pretty well didn't want a huge opening just enough for the rubber air guard fitting. This with the accuracy of fitment in mind was the aim to make it look stock and keep the strength & integrity with the hood / bonnet.

Latest update guys all done picking up tomorrow.
Thankfully the guys done a great job & even washed the car too.
Only issue noticed being the boonet / hood pushed up a little. May address this in time after setting in driving. It seems the air guard may need addressing.

Looking forward to a nice long drive tomorrow.

It turned out very nice indeed. It looks factory. I wonder how big a scoop is neccassry. The scoop I am using is huge by comparision. Maybe too big. I have not finished my scoop install yet and it looks a bit rough for sure. I got the plate made to support the hood seal. One concern that was raised by Ianb was that the air as it enters the scoop goes across the intercooler to the back of IC and does not cool the front portion of the intercooler. Some of the Subarus have a deflector to direct the the air thru the whole IC. Not sure if it is required.

Looks like you ditched XXI.
Funny how those guys didn't survive very long. I just feel bad with anyone stuck with their products now.

Thought it best i put a picture up of my intercooler kit in here, it's made by "Jonny Tig". A lot of people may not of heard of Jon but his skills an knowledge with intercooling and tig welding are some the best to be found. I have no affiliation with his company but this is the second cooler i have had him build me now and i've been more than impressed with his work an product both times.

Is that a bolt-on intercooler kit, or the parts to make your own setup?
