@cruiseroutfit sent me some sweet gold Aisin hubs for the Oddball80 to get that front disengaged. It’s pretty legit to just toss a set of hubs on and now none of that stuff is turning going down the road.

I used to have a pretty steady drone on the highway that is now gone.

Went on a nice test drive. I did confirm while it was jacked up that it’s a 4.10 gear set. I though maybe it was lower but I marked the driveshaft and spun the tire a couple of revolutions and it’s just over 4 turns per.

@cruiseroutfit is there a particular p/n for this Aisin hub? I told @Yukon Kit ”gold” work and he can’t get them on his similar 80

Those should fit, just as they have on many other non US 80's. I know he's emailing with the tech guys at the shop and I gave them the frame # information you FB messaged personally to me. We're getting this problem/solution attacked from all directions :D

This is what you need to put locking hubs on a Middle East 80 or a 75 series. Both take the identical bits. Pay no attention to the quantity. I have bunch of bags of each, given the number of hubs. Looking at the parts I would not attempt to install with generic studs and washer. Some of the washers are cone washers, for example. All the parts look to be of very high standard of manufacture, and these are hub parts.

I had decided to convert a number of my trucks and had found a really good deal on the OEM hubs themselves from a distributor in the Philippines and had bought 14 of them. I mentioned this to @cruisermatt who was kind enough both to point out that you need more than the hubs and also kind enough to put together a giant kit of those parts for all 14 of my hubs (some going to friends, BTW). So here are all the parts. Makes a huge difference having them all right there in front of you. Matt also accidently sent me a bunch of hub caps, which I don't need:

But I will think of some use for them. Birth control for a robotrix?

The gasket, studs, cone washer, washer and nut are the exact same as any/all drive flange or AISIN hub equipped 8x variants (and same era 7x). So while it's nice to have new hardware, it's not a mandatory need. Many customers choose to do new hardware, others don't care too. The gasket obviously should be replaced as it's extremely unlikely they'll not stick to the flange and the wheel hub, meaning they are destroyed.

Curious on those hubs. Lots of counterfeit hubs on the market and Toyota parts in general. You seek to have dealt with quite a few of them so you feel they are authentic? Boxes look legit too so it sounds like you've found a honey hole.

Yes, I think @John Young was a bit confused, I sold him what was recommended to have on hand for his projects. :)

The hardware is really inexpensive compared to the hubs and certainly makes for a nicer installation. Also, with my trucks, they've been through the hands of many men, so the more I can replace when it comes to fasteners, the better.

As best as I can tell they are legit. The story of the parts supplier is that they are old stock and the boxes are getting raggedy, and they were not moving. Hence the price. I think they said they had about 20 so they may have a few more.

The brother of a friend of mine actually physically went to the parts distributor in PH in person and had a number of talks with them. He picked them up and shipped them to me in Dubai. 1650 AED or about 450 USD for 14. Not cheap. The hubs themselves were a bargain at 110 USD a pair or thereabouts. So all in it was around 1250 USD for parts plus shipping from PH to the UAE. Here's the link for the PH seller. They were really good about sending photos and answering questions, but I need to mention that you may have to find a PH helper like I did. I see a note when I look back that they only deal with PH customers. All 14 looked good and OEM. Just that the packaging was a bit shopworn, which is what I expected.

Yes, I live in a state of perpetual confusion.

But I have to add that I think it would be foolish not to use all new hardware when installing these nice hubs. And they are nice. I even made the guys use loctite on the nuts and so on. But Matt, I don't think I could have figured out the hardware part numbers had you not done so. The FSM is not that clear. Now that I know what I was looking for, I was able to figure it out more or less for the 105, again with some of your help. I should know tomorrow when I receive the 105 hardware--which is different from the 80/75 hardware.

The point I was attempting to make is that if people are like me they may not be aware of all the ancillary hardware that goes with the hubs. I would not have been if you had not mentioned it to me.

I don't disagree the hardware is a fantastic idea, we've been selling that exact hardware for 30 years now, we buy those studs, cones, washers, nuts, etc 500-1000 at time :D

The EPC should be quite clear on those, in the event anyone is still not seeing them, they are on the 43-03: Front Axle Hub

Dude! I started this thread from post 1 and read like 10-15 min every night before I hit the hay.
Your OddBall is a gem.
Hopefully on your next trip to Tejas I can catch it in person. 🍻
It’s a great 80 for sure. Thanks for reading
