Had to drill wider holes since it’s a Saudi unit

@cruiseroutfit sent me some sweet gold Aisin hubs for the Oddball80 to get that front disengaged. It’s pretty legit to just toss a set of hubs on and now none of that stuff is turning going down the road.

I used to have a pretty steady drone on the highway that is now gone.

Went on a nice test drive. I did confirm while it was jacked up that it’s a 4.10 gear set. I though maybe it was lower but I marked the driveshaft and spun the tire a couple of revolutions and it’s just over 4 turns per.

This truck is cooler than it looks...and it looks freakin cool! Makes a great loaner vehicle too when you 60 is in its stall at Tilda Bogue. It fits in nicely here....

I have no idea what I’m doing but I’m doing it.

Smog stuff is going into a nice neat pile to make some poor bastard living in Kalifornia a happy person. It’s all in perfect condition.

The Dissy had an open vent and no o ring so it looked like poo inside.

I cleaned it up pretty good with air, brush, brake cleaner and a tap or two of Kroil.

Good ventilation is critical to keeping these 3FE dizzys alive. I killed two due to a blocked fresh air line before I figured out the problem.

So, I was about to research that. Does this think need vacuum on the Small nipple and a safe atmosphere on the big nipple? I know the 60 has a place it goes into the firewall/cab. Don’t see that here

In this photo looks like there is a capped port on the side of the top of the intake box; 2 vacuum lines then a cap. Your dizzy cap has a black cap on one of the nipples. Run a vacuum line from that nipple on the dizzy to the capped port on the intake box. That will draw air out of the dizzy cap. With the other nipple just run a vacuum line up to the firewall and add a cheap fuel filter to the end. That's all you need.

You may have a firewall filter as with the 60 series but I had one become clogged that resulted in the trashed distributors. I've been using the fuel filter mod for about 20 years with good results. I have 3 Cruisers set up this way.

I’ve been reading all the Desmog threads. Lots of info. Lots of broken photo links. I’m winging it for now. If anyone has a more recent write up with photos feel free to share

I had an exhaust tick on acceleration and I think I found my culprit. The two air rail pieces were broken at the rail.

As I said earlier I picked up this Desmog kit. It’s nice and his on line instructions are straightforward.

I went to Wits End to buy his “keychain” delete plate (and did) but I ended up liking the looks of the Lerms Customs plate better.

His kits come with plenty of plugs to take care of all the plugs along the EGR rail but I’m not sure if there is any reason to pull the ones between the thermostat and the manifold. Seems like it’s clean and my hoses are good. Why not leave them?

You could actually cap all these too I would think. The large one operates the check valve for the charcoal but the rest could be capped if your vacuum hoses suck. I bought the Wits End overhaul kit and it came with all new vacuum hoses so I’ll just replace the old stuff since I have 13 sections

Finally, a little bit of cool. The 3F sticker was still on the valve cover hidden behind the intake. Very cool. The Wits End kit also came with new valve cover gaskets and PCV

@NLXTACY (I had to look up Joey’s screenname because it’s dumber than mine)

Nice work! Please document the desmog as much as you can. I am planning to desmog my 3fe in the future, so I will follow along.

if you desmog it just go ahead and pull the whole intake manifold. Makes it way easier. Plus it's probably full of crud.

I almost went this route but then once I got the valve cover off it was super easy to get the air rail stuff off. I bought a gasket to do this but in the end it was not necessary.
