I just assumed they all had gaskets. Mine doesn't have gaskets or nuts on the back. But it does have a rust bubble there. The best thing to do is check the parts catalogue. If the OEM gaskets are to thick you could always use a rubber sheet, cut to size.

On my 79 the top emblem had push nuts on the back and pushes solidly to the body when inserted and holds well, see 2nd pic here:

Genuine OEM Toyota 1979-1984 FJ40 BJ40 Land Cruiser Rear Emblem Name Plate

On the CCOT site they say the lower one for your year comes with clips.

Thanks to Classic Tube for making it right on the brake line that was too short. Now it reaches all the way to the front of the master cylinder as it should.

One thing I'm having trouble with is the horns. They don't work, no click, no nothing. Even touching directly to battery I get nothing. I took these apart, cleaned, painted, etc so I assume I painted a surface that should be bare metal. How do the horns work in general. I've tried 3 different ones, same thing - nothing.

Made a bracket for the fog light switch - powder coated & installed. Also, installed the final fuel tank strap & put some gas in it. Fuel gauge works.

are you grounding through the mount properly?

not sure, that may be a problem also - with horn attached to vehicle or not, I've wired directly to the battery to see if the horn itself works. If it did then I'd trace the problem through the vehicle wiring to the steering wheel.

I ordered the ebay horn replacements for about $30 shipped from Thailand or somewhere, takes a few weeks to get here. I'll try those next & diagnose problems from there. I should be able to hit the horn button & light up a test light, right? That should confirm the wiring in truck is OK.

So the wiring is fine. I was able to light up the test light by hitting horn buttons. I must have screwed up the horns internally somehow. Oh well, new ones will be here soon.

Didn't forget. The gaskets are part of the factory hinges, but not part of the after market quick hinges. If I understand correctly, folks are using a seam sealer to replicate the gasket. If I'm wrong about that, someone speak up before I do something stupid. :hmm:

Where did you get the quick hinges? I want 2 sets one for my doors and another for my half doors.

That steering wheel bracket bolt is a handy mount location. Not sure if it's put to use by many, but I made a bracket for my tach to mount from it. Perfect location. No drilling. And no rubbing/mounting from the steering column. Nice location for the fog light switch! Will have to copy that one day.

a lot to be thankful for this week...

Then today I visited Toyota of South Atlanta for a large pickup. All OEM glass, door handles, door lock mechanisms, rear view mirror & any OEM piece of rubber that I didn't already have....

Could you get a new windshield from a Toyota dealer? I need a new...was planning on just getting one cut but if available from the dealer that may change. I was under the impression they were NLA.

I did get a new windshield from Toyota. below is contact info for the guy I bought from. I would assume with glass you should contact your local dealer so you can pick it up & avoid shipping costs.

Kyle Edwards at Toyota South Atlanta (678-783-2619 or kedwards@toyotasouthatlanta.com).

Yep - that's exactly what I plan to do. You have the current part #? About how much was it? May still get one cut depending on the $s. Thanks!
