In the quest to eliminate the fuel smell, I checked that the fuel tank access hatch had a good gasket (which it did, I also reinforced it in a few areas)
Pulled the Toyota carbon filter, Autozone one arrives tomorrow (though not as cheap as the older threads suggest :( )

Once I pulled the rear seats, I realized how much space there was in the 2nd row area, might make a removable platform that would allow me to sleep in the vehicle on longer trips
Re-installing the rear seats is a sizable PITA, will be making the holes in the carpet larger next time

A/C bearing was ordered tonight, and will be delivered for free tomorrow, impressive from autozone.

Bought mine in Dec for $76.99.

New A/C bearing came in today, charcoal can is in Fedex la-la land.

I used my variable dynamic force malleable swing press to install the new A/C compressor bearing, it went in and I staked it like the one that was already there.
As a result, there is no more wobbling! I have not had a chance to drive it yet to see if it is quieter than before.

Tool to get the snapring off on the compressor was Knipex 49 11 A2

Got a hi-lift jack, will need to get a reasonably priced / functional GMRS here in a bit to comply with the ONSC rules.
Will also need to set a time to go get the jerry can adapters for the rear bumper from the previous owner, would hope to be able to create an insert to secure the hi-lift in place.

I had removed the charcoal canister last night in prep for Fedex delivering mine today (which they did not)
I ended up ripping the bottom rubber hose out on accident.
I reinstalled the old canister today and I did not have any cranking issues over the many stops I took today 🤔

I ripped my lower hose as well, oh well. The problems are all in the check valve up top.

did you do any of the charcoal canister tests that are in the FSM Before deciding to get a replacement?

I did not :|

s*** like this is why I had to stop helping on Facebook.

All the tools in the world to troubleshoot before spending money, but **** it. Just buy parts and swap them out.

Removed a bunch of questionable wiring of the stereo from various previous owners.
Cleaned behind the panel that is below the steering wheel, somehow or another there was a heap of sand back there 😠
Removed a sub input / activation cable that ran to the back of the interior.
Removed some kicker audio splitter filter that would send "mid range" to the door, and high range to this tiny 2" speaker that was in the factory position under the steering wheel.

Took little bro out and got some pizza and  and drove around a local 4x4 track.
One of the previous owners decided that they would save some money by splicing into the factory stereo harness instead of the $15-30 that an adapter would have cost :bang:

Pressure washed a bunch of mud out from places :hillbilly: in prep for sending it off to a muffler shop for getting the header Y pipe fixed, and a new downstream O2 fitting installed

In the process of disconnecting the reconnecting the hood / gas latches, the gas latch does not spring open any more 😅 going to need to sort that out

I did not :(
Well it’s very easy to do, you might as well give it a try. It’s spelled out in the FSM and very straightforward.

Using a clean section of fuel line, I attempted EC -> 1.0 -> 10(a) from the FSM for the charcoal can test.
Depending on who you ask, us humans can produce between 1 and 2 PSI (or more, dunno) it did not pass that, will try the other steps tomorrow.
(I dont have a regulator that goes down to 1 PSI)
Re-located the front diff breather since the line for it was more or less mush.
Fuel line is expensive now :( Gates 1/4 is $3/foot

It was a little different 4 years ago when the Autozone et al VC120 cannisters could be had for $40. Now that they're into $80 territory, I would try some testing first myself.

FWIW the VC120 did not work for my reg.
Not running Ethanol has been the biggest improvement for me. 🤷‍♂️

While it wasn't mentioned, @roflbox had the typical pressurization issues when he stopped for fuel which was a clear indication that the CC was not working.

This is the smoking gun in my mind. What ever route you go, that fuel tank pressure release is some disconcerting business and solving that feels like a blow for safe travels.

@Broski That is interesting. Ethanol free for me is a choice between 2 different 20-ish mile drives.
