The good= the 40 is running and back together

The bad= did a compression check to see how bad it was

The Ugly= 110, 105, 115, 100, 110, 120 Dry.

Just not good. I'm going to take it to a local shop tomorrow and see if I can get someone to adjust the valves a little better than me and tune the carb and set timing.

When I set the timing to 7tdc at 650rpm it runs like crap. If I adjust it by ear it runs very nice.

I know I have burned a valve on #4. I'm just hoping I can get it to Tellico and back one more time before the 2fe conversion. Anyone have a suggestion?
 
Drive it like you stole it. I can trailer you back from MLK but I doubt you'll need it.

those numbers are still with in 15% of each other......... you will be fine, there are tons of old 40's that see daily action with numbers such as those.......

marshall, those numbers are'nt bad at all.:confused:

and sometimes tuning by ear is the best way.

If you're totally desmogged you need to run a bit more than 7 tdc. 10 + would be better - with a better dizzy and a header you could go as high as 14 I think... Might be getting things confused, but think that's how I've been doing it. Course I'm now running a DUI and fuel injection :D .

#4 or 5 valve blow out is probably from running too lean due to a brake booster or other rear vacuum leak. Common.

I've got a 79 electronic small cap waiting to go in. I thought I might wait until after Tellico. Doing to many things at one time leaves way to many things to trouble shoot when something goes wrong.
 
Its the only official UC ride it has been on. It has driven around probably about 20-25 times now though. If you count the HAMOM it has driven at 2 UC events.:cool:

I'm just glad to see it's running.
