had the opportunity to compare the SOR profile with the JC whitney and I believe the SOR as much as I hate to admit it is a more efficienr seal; the round component does not flip inwards and seals out water better!

lower tailgate weather stripping

Charles and fellow knights, here are pix of the lower tailgate rubber of of a trashed 79 pig; it is a very complex piece; the two vertical pieces are almost like the SOR body to door weather seals;there is woven metal channel attached to a round tubular seal; where as the lower horizontal portion is an L- shaped piece of medium firmness rubber also with a round hollow tubular seal component; the vertical and horizontal components are "Glued"? joined together at the corners kinda like the upper tailgate seal manufactured by Slocruisers.......now, where do we go from here as am sure we will all need this item eventually !

I guess I will also need that weatherstripping someday as well. I am still saving for the other bits and pieces of rear tailgate weatherstripping. :)

FYI...I got a notice this morning that SLOCRUISERS has the vent rubber for sale on his website. I just placed an order for one...I think he only has 3 total available right now.

am holding off using the rear tailgate rubber maybe Heather can pursuade slocruisers to make a batch, mine can be used as a pattern.....not in great shape BUT I haven't seen anymore......think the vent rubber is all gone!

Lou, is that the lower tailgate rubber (the one that runs along the bottom of the tailgate and up the sides)? The other tailgate rubber is all available though either John at slocruisers or Seth at PV Cruisers.

sorry if I missed it earlier in the thread.

I am installing the JC Whitney pieces I bought from RHINO and so far so good. I'm starting with the driver's door. The body piece was no problem, it's the door piece I'm having issues with.

What did you guys do with the little plastic "pins" that are mounted int eh weatherstripping? My Pig doesn't have holes for these, should I drill some? Other options? If I clip the pins off will the weeather stripping fit into that chanel on teh door?

Install tips so far: I used a rubber mallet on the body piece. I've used one of those bondo spatulas to set the top of the door piece so far and it's working very well with less chance of tearing the rubber then a screwdriver.

Thoughts?
 
Charles...........YES :) it is the unobtainable one............it is one composite piece that goes on the bottom and up the sides..........will hold off using it on "Rusty" and hopefully slocruisers might take it as a pattern; it is not in the best shape BUT if cut apart there are very good sections that can be used for an extrusion mold!; got is off a very low milage but very rotten/rusted 79 fj55

I have been e-mailing John at slocruisers regarding the small rear door fixed window. He has a good left side but not a good right side so if anyone out there has a good right side please share for the cause!!

As far as the weatherstrip along the bottom of the tailgate, John says someone has a good JC Whitney number for that. Anyone know about that?

In the catagory of stupid questions (but remember...there are no stupid questions...uh huh): But how good is good? Both of mine are missing sections 1/2 and 1/4 inches respectively and are brittle....if I can even pull them intact.???????

I am guessing no go...but thought I'd ask anyway.
