fellow knights; a bit confuuzed:confused: about the lower tailgate weatherstripping being available from JC Whitney, have seen a part that resembles it a bit BUT this one that I pulled is the real deal.......condition/shape.........hmmmm...... mostly very good but with a few brittle areas....... but it would be usable as a pattern for an extrusion.........this piece is a composite similar in composition as the upper tailgate weather stripping supplied by pvcruisers, comments welcome :)

So there are two that work better tan the original one I chose from JCwhitney. Though they also have drawbacks. One they are not grey or vinyl like the original but black and made out of rubber. Though they do have a texture similar to the original. Two the headliner clips will need to be modified as they have a lip that interferes.

Personally I like them both I think the drawbacks are worth a try. I have pricing on these from Fairchild at the office and will post them up tomorrow.

Personally I like the 15452 just because if there happens to be a gap up top it will channel water to flow down the sides Instead of rolling over it like the round.

am with you Marshall, installed the JC whitney and still have leaks, a lot less though!; the problem seems to be that the seal will fold over on itself and channel water towards the inside where as the round one from SOR will not flip over and seems to work well even though the seal itself is round; the 15452 profile looks good.... would be interested in trying it out.........you might check and see if it will flip over and channel water in the corners/angles........mine <jc whitney> does this

Lou

The two that work

15017 is .63/ft min order is 300ft. which is $189+ shipping to one person

15452 is .69/ft min order is 300ft. which is $207+ shipping to one person

For which ever one we decide on. We must have 6 people buy it. 4drs takes about 50ft.

If it cost $20 to ship the whole order and then $10 to each person your looking at $70 in shipping.

15017 would be $44 per person

15452 would be $47 per person

Thats not bad considering I just paid JCwhitney $100 for stuff that doesn't work as well as these two.

What does everyone think?

Long term, how do you think the exposed rubber (the part that used to be vinyl) will hold up?
Has anyone identified headliner clips that will work with this one?

Marshall, I have the JC Whitney stuff and I think it's going to be too thick to close the doors. That being said, I am in for order from fairchild for whichever you think works best. I can PayPal you at a moments notice, just let me know.

So what are you using on the doors themselves? I think the combination is the important thing here. I have the JC Whiteny stuff that is listed in this thread, but it came with little plastic pins in it and it seems very thick.

sorry if I missed it earlier in the thread.

I am installing the JC Whitney pieces I bought from RHINO and so far so good. I'm starting with the driver's door. The body piece was no problem, it's the door piece I'm having issues with.

What did you guys do with the little plastic "pins" that are mounted int eh weatherstripping? My Pig doesn't have holes for these, should I drill some? Other options? If I clip the pins off will the weeather stripping fit into that channel on the door?

anyone?

I just asked the same question! I am under the impression that the pins need to be removed and the rubber needs to be slid into the channels. But I am probably wrong...:)

Marshall, appreciate all the research..........count me in for 100ft...........any source on headliner "pins"..
Heather, the doors will close without problems using the JCWhitney seals, it is scary :eek:first time you ry to close them; but if you let them sit a day or two, there is no problem at all...only problem is that the rubber part of the seal will invert/flip over and channel water inwards during a rain on the corners and angles of the door................the SOR seems to work well, drove another pig during a heavy rain that had the SOR stuff and it worked very well w/o water, but the SOR seal has a round component that fits against the door and will comprees but not flip:frown:

Actually you are correct...............the plastic pins have to be cut, the weatherstrip slides into the channels but has to be glued in the long runs where there isn't any.

What does everyone think? Should we go with the round or the half round?

It doesn't matter to me.

I don't think it will be an issue.

I'm going to look really hard at the samples tonight and make a decision. I'll bend them in the corners and what not.

I'm in for whatever works best. Let me know so I can Paypal whoever is going to do the group buy.

I looked at it again tonight. It really is a tossup. Both fit well but in the corners there is a small gap 1/8th inch triangle Where I cannot get it up far enough. I'm ganna say the round one is the best option. From what I can tell it's very similar to SOR but not exact.

Lou can you give me a call? Maybe you and I can figure this out.

Talked to lou last night. I'm going to look at a few more profiles. Be patient. I'm also going to send fairchild a sample of the original and see what they can do as far as price.
