The 60 Patrol forum is like Mud is for us - though much smaller audience. There are several regulars you will quickly see. All very helpful. Seems like Southern California is the mecca for vintage US Patrols and most owners own several “parts” rigs. We posted WTB and found success there. If I were going for a fun resto project, Patrol would come after Jeep and 40. So much easier to source parts and knowledge with the far more common brands. But then again, having something both rare and reasonably cheap is cool too. It just takes longer to find parts. So it you are t in a hurry, try the Patrol out.
Thanks for the info Alex..... this will be pretty much a trail only rig with very limited street driving so i'm not a ton worried about mechanical replacement parts as on of my spare gen 5 v8s will make its way in at some point along with one ton running gear. May keep the trans and t-case depending on the specs on them.

Thing is pretty nice for what he wants.... I guess his location is why the price is as low as it is. Almost feel back turning it into a trail rig but that's kind of what we want. Don't want to beat up the 80 too bad in the mud and boulders we have to wheel on here.

The last 12 months has seen the Faux40 neglected and overdue for a real shakedown run. School, scouts, a 1913 Model T build, and other projects took priority for Luke. My 2025 Resolution was to see the Patrol in the roadworthy fleet and see it get use (after 7 years of ownership). One week ago we said “enough” and challenged ourselves to get real miles on the little rig. Fuel starvation required addition of an electric fuel pump. We are still using a John boat fuel cell until we determine a permanent solution. But, today Luke was able to put about 120 miles on it without incident. At times it kept up with Toyota relics doing 55 mph. Its 2025 dance card includes the 2025 Relic Run and a couple vintage camping trips with Luke’s recently acquired Apache camper of the same decade. It still needs gauges and other items sorted out, including an OEM style soft top. In due time.

The Patrol is getting more shake down miles. Saturday it popped in at Cars & Coffee at the Speedway. Slight rain on the return trip reminded us that the windshield wiper actuators are back home in a parts box. Will need to get those wired up. Other biggie is fixing the front brakes. They need to be double pumped because of missing brake shoes adjusters. Without the adjusters, the brake shoes retract too far back and need extra fluid to contact the drum. Fellow Mud member had an original still riveted on backer plates. Luke will get the brakes swapped out soon.

The Faux40 snuck into the Relic Run. Getting to Uwharrie was the third longest drive since we had got most the major systems operational. Still running only 5 cylinders and a 6 gallon Jon boat gas tank, it did surprisingly well on the easy trails. The sticker vandalism was sheer perfection.

We decided to press our luck after the Relic Run and left camp headed north for West Virginia. Luke decided for his Spring Break he wanted to put the Patrol and our field mechanic skills to the test. The Patrol covered over 600 miles up and down the Virginia and West Virginia mountains, cruised the Blue Ridge Parkway, and found lots of gravel roads thanks to the OnX app. She did great, until the engine finally gave up. She did far better than expected. We fixed a few relatively minor items in the field, but tackling a valve seat repair in a Dollar General parking lot proved to be our limit. We ultimately towed her home with the 40. Luke is already tackling the engine (top end) rebuilt. She is a fun little project car that surprised us over 7 days of cruising around at low speeds, highway speeds, dirt & mud tracks, and lots of elevation gain.

The little Patrol engine is finally at the reassembly phase. Thankfully the original head survived. Repaired with new exhaust valves, valve guides, and hardened valve seats. Hopefully the exhaust valves don’t eat into the head again. New head gasket & oil pan gasket ready for install.
