So @TonyP showed up at the shop today! 😎

We did the shop “tour” thing and then he-we jumped on finalizing bottom end before assembly.

Ring gap checked on new OEM rings, prep deck (head mating surface) and oil pan mating surface, ect-all.

Going into it today we thought, maybe we will need to gap these new OEM standard rings. All were checked per the FSM and ALL are stellar out of the box. 😎

Monday we will load up the bottom end.

Tomorrow we are heading out for a nice weekend of wheeling and camping. 🏕

Cheers

Yep, I do enjoy the precision work for some reason. All rings were on the lower end of spec (good thing), especially the oil rings. I don't see any blowby in this things near future. Learn something interesting, the FSM requires ring gap measurement from the bottom of the bore (5 inches). From my BMW and domestic days I'm used to measuring from the top of the bore.

Hopefully, Partsouq gets their s*** together and sends us the head bolts so I can see the long block getting built.

Good times getting dirt under the fingernails after a year of s***ty desk work.

I reached out to Partsouq.......we're waiting on FT head bolts(with a bunch of other stuff)....they said they would ship on the 29th. Hopefully that's the case.

One of the warehouses that Partsouq relies on is undergoing some type of renovation and that has slowed everything down.

And some kind of holiday in the Middle East as I recall.

This thing is gonna be a B E A S T. Would love to see it when I pick up my Troopy from Montana (engine swap).

Tony installed the rings & pistons today. He also did rear main seal, oil pickup, oil pan and the rear timing case. 😎

Once assembled, we gave it a run by hand. 😆

If I didn’t already know I would think these are new pistons. Everything is-did assemble beautifully.

Cheers

@TonyP has to be the only dude who takes his shore leave and proceeds immediately to go and work more....

Nice work, day trippers...

Hah, well I'm not wrenching every day or anything.
Took today to go on a day-hike. Absolutely terrible idea in the insane Boise heat.
Probably definitely should have just went to shop instead. 😬

So Tony got on head painting this afternoon. The paint is being a real bi*ch so we are letting some coats dry over night before our next move.

I prepped timing case for assembly yesterday. However, we need to install the oil cooler before final install on timing case. It is behind the IP so has to go on first. Tony decided on vapor hone on the oil cooler cover and than a clear cerakote on top of that. It is out for that right now. We also have head bolts inbound but not expecting till some time next week. So unfortunately we are not getting a long block put together before Tony bails on Saturday. We are getting a fair amount done though in the long block department! 😉

Cheers

We fixed the AC in the shop Tacoma this morning, Tony has been using it while he is in town. It’s a black 2wd Taco so just a wee bit hot with no AC here in 100* heat! Tony took off after AC got fixed, hopefully he went on the river to chill out and relax.

Just got this back from vapor hone and cerakote clear.

Got some other prep done as well so tomorrow we can get back on assembly of the FTE.

Cheers
