I know better than to look at this thread. It stresses me out and I usually end up saying mean things to my Troopy about it better not having any rust :)

Amazing work. Fascinating to watch the progress(although a bit challenging at times...lol).

I'd seal it up in a giant bag, vacuum out all the air and send it right into one of these pools for a nice E-Coat bath :)

This spot that can be seen previously in the thread is now patched, clean up to do still.

Oh and in case you are wondering why we have a huge gaping hole in the side of the Troopy! 😂

This is the rashed quarter I have talked about before. The Troopy took a hit in this area at some point in its life, hence the rash and crack. My guy who is doing the work now who by the way is crazy good at this stuff feels he can straighten up the panel he cut out and weld it back on vs making a new panel. He is real good with the hammer and dolly so I am looking forward to watching it unfold. In fact he has a 4yr degree in auto resto and has been doing this stuff since he was a teenager. So with his skills (which far exceed mine) we are now taking the Troopy in house to final prep before paint. The only thing we will be outsourcing is the actual spraying of the paint which I have a friend who owns a “collision shop” who can handle that part no probs. He just has no interest in any kind of resto anything since they crank out insurance work day after day.

The FTE pump and injectors are headed to GTurbo tomorrow. Tony is going with the Bad Boy red wheel with pump and injectors to match. He may have also made a decision on trans.

I will miss the V8 first drive but this power train combo won’t disappoint either. When it comes to Toyota diesels, this here is the goodies! 😁

It’s amazing to me how much dirt and crap is still in this body even after all the cleaning it’s been through. And my wife wonders why I’m a bit OCD with our cruiser. I just need to show her this thread and she’ll understand. 😂

So here is a tip for doing this kind of work or even just say getting years off mud out of your frame rails.

Get an old piece of steel winch cable. You can cut it off or better if already has a frayed end. Anyways, point is take a frayed cable, 9/16’s is a nice diameter, and stuff that frayed end of cable up in your hollow space. Work it back and forth and just use it like a brush. I have even used it to clean out gunked up intake runners or ports on exhaust manifolds. 😉

That’s how we cleaned out the front floor crossmember mentioned above. In combination with some sand blasting, 160psi of compressed air to blow it out and a can of fluid film with a 3ft wand to seal it up. Works pretty good! 😉

Cheers

I can’t inagine how much dirt is hiding in a troopy. The amount I have blown out of my single cab is mind blowing. The rockers were filled like concrete from the mine dust.

Well, we heard back on Tony’s FTE head today. All good besides the valves, which we are putting 24 new OEM ones in it. I am at least glad there are no cracks in it.

Cheers

Probably a bit hard to tell in pics but this LHS quarter panel we cut out is nice and smooth now.

It was absolutely rashed so happy about this.

What are you grinding with? Flap disks? I've gotta do some panel replacement soon and these pics are helping me get an idea of what I'm getting into.

All of these.

My opinion along with $1.50 will get you a small coffee at your local 7-11 however this would be my choice for a Troopy.
